But note that I don’t defend Skald because I like him. I defend him because I can see what is happening. I know the tactics. The thread from a long time ago. The falsehoods about how someone “always” posts. The people who don’t normally post in his threads suddenly showing up because they see an opening. The fucking inability to believe that a person can’t get better. The hijacking a thread about one thing ("why people get mad about hypotheticals thread, this thread which is about and was rezzed because Skald annoyed people, not because of sexism) The extreme cherrypicking. The conspiracies being created (like a poster being a sock). I’ve seen it often, and even experienced it myself.
I don’t know Skald beyond what he posts. I know I like his hypotheticals. And I know because I post in them that many of the claims are false. I’ve seen how he interacts with people kindly, and how he responds when people find something he says offensive.
I may not know him, but I know this “sex-addicted misogynist who is only posting her for sadistic sexual thrills” bullshit is false. And I thus defend him from these accusations. Just like I would anyone else who was falsely accused.
I’ve not been here long enough to know Skald. I have been here long enough to know the squad that goes around the board calling people names and being assholes to everyone for kicks. They move in a group like a bunch of emo teens and pile on. Then they run to other places and brag about their conquests over here. They sit around counting up their brownie points, patting each other on the back. Proud of the job they’ve done poking fun and thrilling at the worry they think they’ve caused. Guess what? No one cares what you think. No one loses sleep over your proclamations. You are a very tiny speck of dirt on an otherwise clean mirror. You need to grow up. If you don’t like Skald, don’t read his threads. It’s so simple. If this board is so horrible why do you keep coming over here? You know what? I may only read about half of Skald’s hypotheticals and respond to about half of those.
I don’t think talking about two lesbian women is salacious or creepy. It’s just life. If you have a problem with homosexuality, then sure, you’re going to look at it cross eyed, but don’t expect those of us who don’t have this problem to do more than roll our eyes. I don’t try to get someone’s personality out of posts like that and I certainly don’t keep a spreadsheet or bookmarks of people’s quirks to throw back at them 12 years later on this board. That sort of thing definitely makes an impression on me, and it isn’t a good one.
My liking Skald has nothing to do with these posts and more to do with his other posts. If someone wants to try to read something evil into my character because of my defense of him, I’ll happily put them on ignore, just as I would walk away from someone in real life if they tried that to my face.
