Yeah. Organizing harassment at other boards and digging for personal real life information seems like jerkish behavior to me. The loudest “dat’s a troll!” proclaimers appear to be projecting.

Yeah, this. It’s hard not to get frustrated when multiple female posters say something makes them uncomfortable, and it’s met with handwaving, dismissive attitudes, and rationalizations on the part of some of the male posters.
And personally, I don’t find the mean girls thing misogynistic, just silly, but I can accept that other female posters would find it so, and understand why. See how easy that is? I don’t share the view, but I’m not dismissing it.
The very, very best part of this thread is watching people who have a whole forum at Giraffe Boards dedicated to making fun of people here trying to portray themselves as the victims in all this. Crimoney, y’all have retrosnark threads where you gnaw at the dried bones of things that happened here a decade or more ago. You are still making fun of people who haven’t posted in years. Ducatti, for example. You dedicate some significant portion of your life to mocking the members of an aging internet discussion board…but you are the ones who feel transgressed and violated?
It’s not the GB that’s behind this. It’s this board. Put the blame where it goes.
The very best part of this thread is watching people get their knickers in a twist by what other people say about them on a different message board.
I’m not aware of a single post that I’ve exchanged with Skald. This is actually a point for his prosecutors: his biggest defenders aren’t especially familiar with the sum total of his posts. I only have a sharp idea of the latest for example (though I have read others).
While I am a male poster, FTR I had no idea of your gender when I reviewed your posting history. I just perceived a one-track bully with little self awareness.
When a poster said that Skald was a tad creepy, but not necessarily the creepiest thing he/she had read, I acknowledged it. It’s just that I don’t get a sharing feelings vibe from his prosecutors. I see attacks, at least as of 24 hours ago or so. FRT, I supported Ellen Cherry’s attempts to curb gratuitous male slobbering in IMHO/MPSIMS threads years back. I still do.
Generally speaking, if you make claims here you have to back them up. Do you feel a certain way? Fine, I’ll take your word for it. Do you think Skald’s depiction of same-sex relationships is gratuitous? That’s a matter of discussion: everyone here has a right to their own feelings, but their claims are subject to review. That’s what fighting ignorance is about. That’s what this board’s mission is.
Of course you lack the perception to realize that the patheticness of another forum that exists solely to poke fun at other forums isn’t actually twisting knickers. We could link every post over there that mentions personal information and attempts to bait and troll posters here. That’d be illuminating as to the character of the posters there that instigate drama here solely for the purpose of having material to “snark” on. Why the mods tolerate the asymmetrical pot stirring is somewhat of a mystery.
You give the GB way too much credit. Way too much. They may strike fear in your heart, but they are quite docile actually. I see you don’t miss an issue of snark though, much as you hate it.

Because we don’t instigate drama here. If we poke fun of you on the GB, you’re perfectly welcome to join in there and defend yourself. It’s no different than the ongoing snark thread in this forum.
This is why I didn’t have a whole lot to say about Skald in this thread until Penfeather’s post: I figured I didn’t know what I was talking about. After Penfeather’s post, I thought I knew a lot more of what I was talking about. Penfeather’s evidence of actual misbehavior on Skald’s part was pretty misleading, though.
I see two different things folks are saying:
- Skald is a creepster.
- I’m creeped out by Skald’s posts.
The second one is certainly true (for some folks). The first one? I’m not convinced.
If folks make a weaker claim than #1, like,
- Skald sometimes puts sexually exploitation scenarios into his hypotheticals, without warning folks that they’re going to encounter sexual exploitation in the posts, and that’s kind of a shitty thing to do.
I can get behind that.
FWIW I’ve read a fair number of his threads. Mostly the ones I remember are superhero threads or magic wish threads involving Athena or something, because I’m a huge nerd who gravitates to threads like that.
Too late to edit: And posting personal information on the GB is every bit against the rules as it is over here.
My main association is with third graders, natch, where conflicts among boys often involve lying on the ground and frantically kicking each other, and conflicts among girls often involve talking shit about each other in little cliques just far enough away from each other that names can barely be heard, trying to outdo one another in saying the cruelest thing about someone else. I was not familiar with Tina Fey’s involvement until I Googled it just now.
Still, I’d rather not feed into stereotypes, so I wish I hadn’t used the phrase.
I never said Giraffe board folks had power. I was talking about stated intent and how it’s ironic that people here are called trolls by people from another board who troll here to stir up drama for entertainment.
It’s also weird that in this forum where the language rules are practically non-existent outside of a few capricious and bizarre exceptions that “mean girl” is triggering.
Point of order. No one has to do anything to stir up drama here. It’s pretty much self generated and then sustained by lawn chairs and popcorn.
