Skald the Rhymer, your fixation with rape is somewhat disturbing.

It’s possible to have an interest in an unpleasant subject without being a participant or a wannabe participant. Anyway, from what I’ve seen, Skald’s no one trick pony, in which case you might have some semblance of a point, OP. But the guy’s got hypotheticals for everything under the sun. Big deal.

I tend to agree.

I’m not sure if Skald is obsessed with rape. He talks about it a lot, sure, but it’s not like these threads just die on the vine, they get a lot of replies.

But his hypotheticals are often VERY stupid, that’s an opinion I can get behind. Just look at the rape thread that’s got the OP all angry. The hypothetical is set up in such a way that there’s really only one right answer. And it includes enough extra information that the whole thing sounds ridiculous anyway.

A good Skald hypothetical always results in a great thread. But he’s got maybe one good one in him a week. The other six he posts before his next great idea just make me want to scream.

This board in general has a fixation with rape. Has anyone else noticed the rapey tone around here?

I’d guess at least 15% of all posts ever made on this board concern rape. I’d nominate The Game Room or Market Place as most rape free.

It actually does. Notice the parade of rape jokes in this thread. A lot of men around here seem to think that rape is hysterical.

That doesn’t make Skald any less creepy, however.

Maybe he has a rare case when he gets off on getting flamed on a message board for making too many rape hypotheticals?

There has to be ONE person like that out there.

Well, etymologically it is.

Explain please?

“Hysterical” comes from “uterus”.

Yes I know: what has that to do with rape?

Etymology is the study of the history of words, **2Fiona; **“hysteria” comes from the Greek word “hysterikos” which means, “of the womb, suffering in the womb.”
Therein lies the joke…
As for Skald’s rape references, I guess there’s been a bunch of 'em. Maybe he’s just >cough< interested.

I dunno, there are plenty of posts about Ben Roethlisberger and Lawrence Taylor.

I don’t mind the hypotheticals and have never particularly noticed that he is fixated with rape. What do you want him to do, stop posting? At least he tries to keep this board entertaining, which is more than can be said for some people (including myself).

And then comes rule 34.

For crying out loud - he starts a million polls with bizarre hypotheticals. Like Mr. Excellent says, it’s his thing, and one of the things that makes these boards interesting.

Not getting the angst lately about other Dopers starting too many threads. It’s like Skald’s Athena schtick, or the flying monkeys that he used to do.

Not to go all Rodney King on you, but why can’t we just get along? If you don’t like the OP, don’t read the thread or vote in the poll. It doesn’t seem Skald is any more obsessed with rape than any other form of sex, at least on the SDMB. He doesn’t mention a book on the SDMB, so I will leave that out of it.

We talk about various types of sex on the SDMB. Some of it is interesting. some of it is weird, some of it is not something I care to participate in. As Ed Gein said, it’s no skin off my back.

Of course, I’ve had Dopers go off the deep end concerning things I have said about rape, so maybe that’s part of it.

Regards,
Shodan

It’s not just the jokes. There’s a very powerful “rape ain’t shit but hoes and tricks” mentality here in general. For a while there I swear three new rape threads were being started a day and in every. Last. Fucking. One. there were guys coming in freaking out and worrying that, oh dear me, women might be going outside with their vaginas and that’s totally asking for it and just because a woman is suffering internal bleeding and covered in bruises doesn’t mean it wasn’t consensual and OH MY GOD WON’T SOMEONE THINK OF THE MEN.

It’s pretty off-putting.

I agree with you, Peeta.

Hmm…I’ll have to start a topic about Lawrence Taylor’s latest activities to even things out.

Why would you want to do that?

Me too.

That’s pretty common though, it’s not just a fixture of the dope. And it’s not so much about rape as it is wishing torment on some horrible asshole. It’s fairly mindless. I used to make comments like that myself until I started thinking about what they really implied.
