Well, Myrna, if your problem with Skald comes from offboard, why don’t you, I don’t know, talk about it on that board? I mean, if you can’t even provide proof that it happened in the form of a link, why do you expect us to care?
As for Dio’s claim that joking about rape is okay, I expect him to hold to that when it happens about women. He can try to claim to not care that he might be a misogynist, but his past posts indicate otherwise. He admits to a black-and-white morality, and has called out misogyny before. Plus, his joke wasn’t very funny: if you want to joke about something offensive, you’d better be sure it’s actually funny.
As for rape triggers: I think the fact that rape is in the title should be sufficient. If you would freak out over that, you would also freak out over a “possible rape triggers” title as well. But I do think we tend to go overboard when we say such people shouldn’t read the entire Internet.
Sorry, I like Skald, and wish more Dopers were like him. I honestly don’t get why so many people dislike him. Sure, doing something shitty offboard is one thing, but it seems more like most people hate him because he’s weird. And that has never made sense to me. If anything, Weird == Interesting.
Honestly, I don’t see what the big deal is. (Particularly Myrna’s pithy out of context link.) This pitting should be pitted.
I don’t find Skald offensive (certainly not in the posts of his I’ve read) and I’m sure the majority of the board doesn’t either.
Though obviously in defense of him, BigT, I think ‘hate’ is rather a strong word to use - I would think Skald’s detractors are more likely indifferent, confronted, confused, or maybe even bored by him; I would hope that nobody really hates him ‘because he’s weird.’
Like you, I find ‘weird’ intriguing.

I know a lot of folks have a very self-centered mindset: if something doesn’t affect them personally, they don’t give a fuck (see the people comparing taking two second to add a trigger warning to walking on pins and needles and living on eggshells). I do not care, if you, personally, care. But the OP is right, I have personal experiences (that other people in this thread have corroborated), that prove he is right that Skald has “thing” for the sexual abuse of women, so I mentioned them. Because I couldn’t read all the dismissive responses that I knew would come to the OP and not say anything.
And now I’ll get a warning for responding to you about it.
