Skald the Rhymer, your fixation with rape is somewhat disturbing.

Well the amount Skald posts I don’t think its really surprising. Seriously for as long as I can remember there is always at least one thread posted by him in IMHO, and since Polls were introduced he makes at least a poll per day.

Ps Usually find his threads rather entertaining btw.

Conversely, Myrna, a lot of folks have a very self-centered mindset: if something affects them personally, the entire world should give a damn.

I just think that these threads don’t really need trigger warnings because they already mentioned rape or assault in their title. To me, it’s like someone complaining that a link labeled “Naked girl” or “Buttsex!” doesn’t have “Not safe for work” on it. These days whenever I see “Trigger warning,” I just assume the writer/blogger is trying to get as many people to click on the link as possible.

HOW DARE YOU!!! YOU JUST TRIGGERED THE MEMORY OF BEING RAPED BY FLIPPER WHILE HE WAS SHOOTING THE CHEERIO’S HONEYBEE FROM HIS BLOWHOLE!!! I HATE YOU, ASSHOLE!!!

stupid caps rule!

Just out of curiosity…

The post that Myrnalene linked to as ‘evidence’ that you were or were pretending to be Skald’s ex seems like it was very clearly tongue-in-cheek, just riffing off the story that he told in the thread. Skald even stated that it was a joke, though you continued to play along in that thread. Do you mind confirming that it was indeed a joke? I’m beginning to feel like I’m in that Kids in the Hall sarcastic guy sketch.

Yes, you are. But if it makes you feel any better, BigT is getting one, too.

[Moderating]
Myrnalene and BigT, you are both being officially warned for failure to follow a moderator’s instructions.

I trust this is the last time this subject is going to be raised on this board, particularly by you, Myranlene.
[/Moderating]

Sorry. I completely missed the mod note post. The rest of my response is in a PM, since it’s sorta ATMB-ish.

And, sorry, Myran, for baiting you into crossing the line as well. I’d comment on your comment, but I don’t want to get in trouble again.

I’m disappointed. I thought this was going to be about handshakes.

Rapist!

You’re a fucking troll, Myrnalene. You always have been. Crawl back under the bridge.

Well, ok, that’s not true. Myrna is opinionated and argumentative. But she is sincere. Disagree with her as much as you want, it’s your prerogative. But you are mistaken if you think she says things just to spite and cause trouble. If she says that Skald is creepy and gross, it is only because she really thinks he is. The nice thing about myrna is that you always know where you stand with her.
You, on the other hand are annoying and whiny.

I really need to second this. A troll she is not. I don’t agree with this pitting of **Skald **but I can also she where she and the Op are coming from.

Don’t feel lonely, Electric! I hope you don’t think it disingenuous of me to have not mentioned my fakeass girlfriend connection here prior to my fakeassery being revealed.

Now that it’s uncovered I’ll just wave it in Myrna’s general direction.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this pitting. I wasn’t online yesterday and try to avoid the Pit as bad for my constitution. Anyway:

AqualungBats5tht, whyn’t you just put me on ignore?

To the rest of y’all, just picking some responses that leap out at me…

What long-ass book do you think I’m writing?

Anyway, I said moons and moons ago that I was out of the writing biz, 'cept for the Xmas-present-story I wrote last month. And reports. Anyway, when I was doing research, I always wrote “This is for a book” early on.

(bolding mine)

I think you mean Welshwomen, as the answer is clearly Duffy and nobody else. But since I can never cause trauma to somebody with pipes like hers, then clearly I can never destroy Wales. Plus the wold conqueror jokes are officially retired.

(bolding mine)

I’m not sure there’s only one right answer in that thread, since several posters voted in a way quite contrary to me. I can think of several posters I respect greatly who disagree with me on issues I think are obvious, and others whom I ordinarly find irritating who have agreed with me on matters I thought ambigous. I entirely agreed with Dio in the cremation thread, for instance, and disagreed strongly (but not entirely) in the revelation-of-racism thread.

Anyway, if a thread bores you, why read it? That’s what I do with the entire Game Room.

What lurid detail? The thread that vexed you doesn’t describe the rape at all, because I don’t have it in me to describe that. All it says it “Zoe was sickened.” And that she could see her own face.
[/QUOTE]

I have retired the mutant bee and flying monkey jokes. Please update your records.

And that’s all I’m going to say right now on account of needing togo to the bathroom. I’m too lazy go to through the thread and thank the persons who defended me for their support, so just assume that the kiss I’m blowing Shot from Guns is meant for the lot of you.

We’ll see.

Skald, I’d shake your hand, but who knows what THAT might start…

The whole discussion about rape triggers from message board posts kinda makes me wonder if the SDMB should do like Something Awful does and have small one/two word image tags for each thread to tell people what’s in it.

Then again, probably not, since a RAPE tag probably would be a bit awkward to explain if anyone saw you reading the SDMB at work.

Never heard of this trigger thing. Sounds awful.

Triggers are the stimuli that cause PTSD flashbacks. Of course flashbacks are horrible and I wouldn’t want anyone to go through that, but I don’t think it is anyone’s responsibility to make sure that no one is ever triggered. They can be really random things. Should I warn someone if I might accidentally talk about cats or socks in a post, even if that’s the thing that triggers someone? No way.

But it’s reasonable to warn when something might be offensive or disturbing, such as graphic descriptions or images of violence. I don’t think anything in this thread comes near the point where it needs a warning placed on it.

No shit. That is pretty obvious. I understand what a trigger is in all senses of the word. I meant as it was brought up here that some boards have some sort of trigger tag. Sounds like a horrible idea.
