I love slash. I read it. I write it.
However, I think of it like seafood. Get a good batch and it’s the best meal you ever had. But let one bad piece slip through, and you’ll never want to eat again.
If you’re interested in seeing what good slash writers (or maybe “writers of slash”; the ones that keep you coming back for more are writers first and slashers second) can do, check out some of the stuff here*, where they cover the character Angel from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the eponymous series. An excellent example of femslash (non-canon girl-on-girl pairing), is [url=“http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1364838”]here, where some Discworld characters do their thing.
In any case, my point is that not all slashers are sick and twisted. Some of the best I know are happily married with families, jobs and a creative pastime that makes them happy. It’s not all bad.
I don’t think this was covered in the other thread, but I’m curious, is there a name for romantic stories about canon pairings? I mean would Utena/Anthy be femslash, or something else? (not sure that’s the best example as I’m not sure how blatant the expression of their relationship gets, but they would seem to be a canon couple).

Relationship stories about canon pairings is just “fanfic”, usually designated by the “name” of the ship or the initials. Like, for Buffy and Spike (my particular area of intersest) either S/B or Spuffy…
I wrote my very first slash story on Thursday night. What can I say? Now that Spike is on Angel, I want to see Spike on Angel…

And I think someone else on the boards once posted an even greater puzzler: If you wrote a “Will and Grace” story where W&G have sex, would that be slash?

And I thought I was the only one who worried about things like this. FWIW, I don’t think it would be slash. It would be het, but a rather strange and confusing version.
I’m a slash writer, as a few people know - but my OTP varies on a weekly basis. Currently it’s Remus Lupin/Sirius Black (much more canonically plausible than Harry/Draco!) but is subject to change. If I may go off on an irrelevant tangent for a moment, I hate the way gen fic (romance-free) fiction is overlooked, mainly because that’s what I like myself. You can do ridiculous things like cross over HP and Discworld (not that you can’t do that with slash, but it’s easier this way).

I’ve seen some Will and Grace het. I haven’t read it though, since I’ve only seen the show a few times.
The funniest slash I ever read was that parody someone mentioned here, “Gallant is arroused, Goofus is horny.” DAMN funny stuff.
