Sleep? What's that? Quizzing the MMP

Finished power-washing the deck rails so the wife can start painting them. Scrubbed part of the deck with soap and a stiff brush. Started power-washing the rear gutter when the washer suddenly went KLUNK! and water started pouring out. That’s the end of that particular piece of gear. Ah well, it lasted 20 years and I was going to try to sell it prior to the move. Saved me the trouble.

Made a run to the paint store, and while the wife was painting, I was back in the garage, sorting and cleaning. Sold my bench vise to somebody and a couple of rakes to someone else. Cleaned the porch furniture. Textured a few areas inside the house and will paint those tomorrow. Put the rail hangers on the new herb planter boxes that I made some months ago. Hung one planter on the deck and then just ran out of mojo.

Made chicken schnitzel and orzo for dinner, took a couple of Aleve for the achy back and plan to veg for the rest of the evening. Will probably crash by 8:00.

Long day and not as much done as I hoped.
Laundry would be a lot easier if I had a full-sized dryer.
It would also be a lot easier if I just did a load every day or so like I used to, so I don’t have wet laundry piling up waiting for the dryer.

My son is on a scheduled layoff. There’s not enough irk, so he (along with almost everybody else) volunteered to be laid off. He sees it as two weeks’ vacation.
He barely irked the month of January; he used all his sick time and then all of his PTO. Now he will barely irk in February.
The unemployment website is down, so we’ll have to handle it tomorrow.

I like black beans in chili.
If I’m making a big pot, I’ll use both kidney beans and black beans.

Early dinner. Leftover cucumbers and tomatoes with feta and kalamata olives, kofta, and homemade tzatziki.

I have made “Greek” pizza with the same ingredients. almost. Tzatziki sauce on the crust, kalamata olives, cut cherry tomatoes, spinach leaves, feta, and some more white cheese to bind it a little more.

Sorry to hear about your son’s job Sari. I hope he finds something else quickly.

bushtit pacific northwest - Google Search They exist and are a lot of fun to watch they zip in in groups and hang off the suet feeder. They play in the sprinkler in the summer.

FCM, I use black beans in place of other beans in several of my recipes. They’re great for baked beans, too.

L.A. wins. And thus ends handegg season. :football:
And count me in on Team Black Bean.

They flock to our boxwood tree and feed on the white flies that seem to nest there.

Ok, they exist. It’s still a silly name.

I agree. We have thrashers here. When you read that, did you think about birds at all? No, you were probably wondering if I was talking about a high school sports team.

Evening all. The restaurant was too busy (no parking available) for dinner, so Wendy’s fed me today and I’ll get my meatloaf dinner tomorrow. Watched the tackleball championship, more for the commercials than anything (there were 3-4 good ones and a couple stupid ones) while eating most of a large bag of Potato Chips and drinking Pepsi. Game was OK, but I didn’t find it particularly compelling.

Never made it to the gym, will do my swimmin’ tomorrow and try to keep the weekday schedule going. Have to do a couple of other things, so I guess I need to make a list.

Don’t eat Chili (yes, I am an American living in the South, but it wasn’t something we ate when I was young and I’ve never developed a taste for it) so can’t comment on the bean variety.

Have read all but getting rather sleepy so I’ll just say that I’ll catch all y’all on the next MMP.

I just booked our room for the seminar. 7/29 to 8/5 in Tucson. OMG it’s going to be sooooo hot and most of Tucson looks neglected and desperate. I was stationed there around 35 years ago and the military neighborhoods still have the same air of despair.

We will be staying at a resort and spa, there are several floors blocked out for us because us old stitching folks can get so very loud and disruptive. I’m taking a class and Mom is going to “volunteer” to do the hospitality stuff.

At least our room has a balcony so I can step out and let the cold air wash over me while I’m taking a few hits cause otherwise I’d melt in the 110F+ heat.

I am so happy that Mom is still able to do this sort of thing. Imma bitch about the heat and death by AC and all sorts of little petty shit, but it’s all meaningless because mostly I’m just going to be happy that Mom can enjoy herself doing something she loves.

Oh My Gawd, it’s going to be sooooo hot.

hopefully, he’ll get to go back, is it just a couple of weeks? but my dad worked for GM/Delco and this happened a lot in the late 70s and early 80s …hed be off at least 6-12 weeks a year just not in a row

Yeah tuscon is an armpit … I sent there for 10 weeks for my court-ordered summer vacation when mom and stepdad lived there for almost a year …Only place where you can burn sun tea…

It’s only for two weeks, he goes back on the 22nd.

My father irked for GM. He never got laid off though. He irked in data processing so layoff time was when he had to irk a lot of overtime.
Same for my friend’s father, who was an electrician.
The layoffs were during the model changeover years.

That’s impressive.
