TIL there is such a thing as an electric fishing reel, and that they’re expensive.
I am showered, packed, and ready to go. I didn’t take into account the amount of traffic at White Pass due to snowboarding/skiing. Looks like things are backed-up into Packwood. Damn it. Oh well, there isn’t a rush. It’ll be fine.
There’s a line in “The Front Porch Song” by Robert Earl Keen (about growing up with Lyle Lovett) that includes a line about “crawlin’ out of bed Sunday morning around 11:30 in our underwear…” and well, that’s exactly what I did today.
I’d put on an eyemask & inserted earplugs after my bio-break, and crashed HARD y’all. I waz tahred, I was!
Definitely needed the sleep after the last coupla shifts.
My back & feet were still killing me when I got up for my oatmeal snack, but after the extra (blessed, blessed, lovely, oh-so-wonderful) sleep I feel a bit better.
Speaking of birdies: I just posted in the "Today In Nature I saw … " thread that I saw a pileated woodpecker for the 1st time in my life today, during the short time I’ve been conscious. (They don’t venture down South - smart birds.)
Those suckers are HUGE compared to the downy & hairy woodpeckers I’m used to seeing!
We have an all-hands meeting at irk in a couple of hours. Never knew jobs like this had actual, corporate-office-style meetings but here we are.
I suspect I know the reason - management has been making checklists for things like open/close duties, rather than the current “catch as catch can” method, which results in bickering (“man, whoever closed last night didn’t do a dang thing!”) and when I say “management” I mean the new manager with whom I’ve already butted heads.
Don’t get me wrong - a checklist of necessary tasks is helpful, especially when there are several employees all asking “What else ya want me to do?” or conveniently waiting until someone else does the task - but this is all the brainchild of @$$hole manager so I wonder how well it will go over with the rest of the crew.
I heard rumors of some monthly raffle to incentivize - hopefully this meeting will confirm (or deny) such rumors.
Finally, for those interested in the story behind the Front Porch Song (if you like singer-songwriters) here’s the Keen song:
Well, I got deheathenized this morning, and now I don’t have to make anything for meals today! The youth group had taken orders for 6" subs and I picked them up after church. Also, the two girls(sisters) who had been taking orders for Girl Scout cookies brought them in so I have sandwiches, chips and cookies! Yay for Thin Mints. I always order them, as I pushed enough cookies as a scout. Keebler does make Grasshoppers that are pretty much the same, but I want to support the GS as well.
JaneDoe42, the Gospel reading today in church included the Beatitudes and I was thinking of your post “Blesses are the cheesemakers.”
The snow has begun. Just flurries so far - we shall see if we get the 1-3" that was threatened. FCD says the chili is good. I finished the last of the soup for my lunch. Time for more chillage.
10:20 here, having gotten up around four hours ago. I made breakfast: Pancakes, bacon, and an egg for The Missus, and a keto pancake, bacon and two eggs for me. We finished that about 50 minutes ago. I took the trash and recycling out to the street for tomorrow, and I washed a frying pan and lid (from yesterday’s breakfast), a metal bowl (I used it for mixing the kofta last night), and a Pyrex bowl I used for Wifey’s pancake batter.
What’s oon the agenda for today? I need a shower. And I need to get off of me arse and hook the battery back up to the MGB. Maybe take it for a spin before the Super Bowel.
Yes, I know. But I like calling it the Super Bowel.
Today’s plans include not watching the Super Bowl. I’ve also ordered some bags of gardening soil and some amendments from Home Depot and they are ready, so I’ll pick those up. I have a big raised planting bed under my living room windows, and two smaller ones on wheels that I’ll put together sometime this week.
I do like bird feeders. My cats like to watch them, so that’s a win. I also like watching the birds myself. They’re beautiful, and have such interesting personalities. I’ve worked out the logistics for a crow feeding station in the front yard, so I hope to get that set up in the next day or so. It should be a fun experiment.
Moommm You mentioned American eagles. Are those Bald Eagles or something else? We have Golden Eagles here. I’ve seen them hunting egrets not far from here. One thing I miss from Missouri is that I don’t see owls around much.
So, do I want a second cup of coffee or will that take me straight over into the jitters… decisions, decisions. More coffee! Off I go
It’s not like I HAVE to but tomorrow morning I’ll get up by 5:30AM CST. Turner Classic Movies will be having one of my favorite Claudette Colbert movies on, Cleopatra. I prefer it to the Taylor version although I still like that one. Do other Mumpers ever alter their schedules for TV?
Nah, just set the DVR.
The MGB started on the third try. Not bad for not having been run in two or three months.
I’m glad I have a quick-disconnect on the negative lead. Makes hooking up the batter much easier.
LOL, Johnny, I keep forgetting I am tech ignorant. Back in the days of VCRs I knew how to program those, but I barely know what DVR means. Oh well, in spite of the early hour I will enjoy the movie.
“How old is this Caesar?”
Check the bottle? (Try the veal - I’ll be here all week.)
Happy Sunday!
It was chilly 28 degrees at the park this morning. Still had five people and eight dogs.
Ripple is being a brat; he will not leave Adam alone.
I forget how smart he is. Yesterday he was aggravating Adam and I offered him a treat to come over to me. Now, when he wants a treat, he starts picking on Adam.
Still doing laundry.
What a pain this morning. I washed the mattress cover, which got all tangled around the agitator. I had to pull it out, soaking wet, and reposition it in the washer.
I hope to finish the laundry today. Trash and recycling go out. We have to put in for my son’s unemployment. CVS keeps texting me to pick up my prescriptions, but yesterday and today the pharmacy was closed.
There is so much more I need to do, and it is slow getting it done.
I used to hate doing bedding when I had a top loader. Blankets and such are so HEAVY when they are wet and tangled.
Such a nice variety, it sounds delightful. We have hummers all year but I do see a lot of migrating birds in the spring and fall. It’s almost time for the Turkey Buzzards to fly north, they are amazing to watch soar.
Thank you for thinking of me The biblical cheese makers were lucky enough to be able to work with goat milk. You have to coax and sweet talk cows milk to get it to turn into curds, goat milk WANTS to be cheese.
I was talking to Mom last night and she wants to go to Tucson in July for the national ANG (American Needlework Guild) seminar. I was going to go and be her driver/baggage handler but then I looked at their classes. The Tapestry Tastings in pastel rainbow colors would look lovely in our bedroom and I always learn something cool during the classes.
I need to think about this cause I can go to such things as long as I don’t spend even a dollar on a needle holder. Once I’ve spend money, I keep spending money and I really do not need more projects. Except the tapestry one. But that would mean spending money and I know me well enough to know what will happen next.
Crows are so entertaining and very smart. Are you going to make them “work” for their favorite treats? If so, please post some videos, I love watching crows figure things out.
I’ve heard The Front Porch Song on our local NPR Americana station before shoe. I like Robert Earl Keen (although I won’t get to go, he’ll be at the Ryman in a few days).
Got the Sunday chores done, did some stuff in the studio and made some tasty stuffed butternut squish for supper. After KP, I’ll play around a bit more in the studio. I doubt if I watch the game, given that I’m mostly a social football watcher and the past couple of years have put the kibosh on that. Plus, the Titans aren’t in it.
Bald eagles - dunno why I said American… Brain fart, no doubt. We have owls in our neighborhood - I often hear them at night when we have the windows open. Never saw one tho.
Did I miss something? When I get behind I tend to skim posts quickly, but I don’t recall anything about this…
FCD declared the chili a success. I used black beans instead of kidney beans and he said it was better that way. He had 2 bowls for lunch and there’s another large serving in the fridge, and 5 servings bagged and in the freezer.
SIL has a Dr appt at 9 tomorrow so I’m going to their house to watch Toby, then I’ll run a few errands down that part of town. FCD has a Dr appt in Baltimore on Weds but I can’t go since I’ve got the baby. But SIL is off on Thurs and daughter is off Friday - that means a short week for me! YAY!
I foraged for an early supper, and I’m about to assume the reading position again. The Big Game will be on, I suppose, but I don’t expect to pay attention. I don’t really like football. I’d rather read.
I agree with FCD on black beans in chili.
taters I recognize some of those bird names, but I feel you’re pulling our legs on some of those. bushtits? That’s just silly.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated (sad!), had a bunch of chili for N.O.L. and said goodbye to EYP. Actually I will say goodbye again tomorrow cause of the meetin’ tomorrow afternoon. I had some chili with black beans today and it was nummy! The demon rum cake was a hit. There was a little bit left and I sent that home with someone. Nappage occurred this afternoon. The biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Chillage now ensues. We shall not be viewin’ the Super Bowel.
Ah yes, tonight’s “Season Finale of Sports.”
Love using that phrase - it makes grown men weep.
ETA: black beans make everything better.
Watched the puppy bowl. I want that Bassett/Shih Tzu mix. Got the Super Bowl on* No snow here, but it did rain, and the high was back around noon(it’s 40 now)
< ahem >
Hockey
Also, 10 days till Formula 1 pre season testing.
*I said it. what’s the NFL gonna do, send commandos to drag me away?
Count me in as another who prefers black bean chili.
Like swampy, I’m not watching the big game tonight. The Titans aren’t in it and I have to get up at 0stupid30, so I’ll be in bed in a while.
See y’all tomorrow!
