Sleep? What's that? Quizzing the MMP

My bro is my mom’s executor and I’m not worried about any squabbles. Especially since there’s truly nothing that I want for myself. I’m hoping my daughter gets a few mementos of her grandmother, but that’s about it. He’ll sell the house and split the proceeds among us, assuming nothing catastrophic happens before then that requires her assets to be liquidated. There are a few paintings I wouldn’t mind having, but really, that’s pretty much it.

Luckily, having only 1 kid, our wills are pretty simple.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 41 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 57 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today is laundry day. Huzzah! Sup shall be my world famous Eyetalian chickin, smashed N.O.T., baby lima beans, and rolls. We shall also, as usual, work on our sloth skills.

VanGo hope you here from the SPCA soonest re the dawg walkin’.

Nellie I too shall add to the call the doc advice. It will be worth it if only for some peace of mind for you.

Nuts conga rats on A Thing! It sounds like A Thing is just what you have wanted.

Nameless poor GG! How the red dot haunts him!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Morning all. Up at 0700 and ready for an active day…well, at least I’ll get to the gym for an hour or so… Not much else on the agenda, but at least the weather is supposed to get to 55F. Will attempt to make a phone call tonight on the new cell phone (Taters, like your husband, if I can talk, text, take a occasional photo and receive a e-mail or two, I will be happy–just slightly overwhelmed with the several dozen apps available (for a price, I presume) on the thing.

Nut, will still keep fingers crossed until A Thing is 100% sure, but it sounds like a big step in your life and my congratulations and hopes that things go well. And here in the US, we call PHD “Piled Higher and Deeper” (B.S. is of course, Bs and M.S. is More of the Same).

FCM, may Toby be in a nappy mood and hooray for the new great-nephew.

Unknown, enjoy your Wednesday; what will you be doing on your birthday, I wonder??

OK, need to break fast and decide when I’ll head over to the gym. All y’all take care.

Another voice added to the chorus, nellie - I hope you get a call back and fast! Even if it’s nothing, you don’t want to find out the hard way it’s something.

Today is another bright day. Tons of snow still on the ground, but it’s supposed to be in the 50s today so it should be taken care of toot sweet (yes, I was too lazy to look up the spelling so I made it up because that’s the type of person I am).

I went to the gym with a friend yesterday to do a spin/weight combo class and low key thought I might barf when I got home - I had chills and everything. I guess I borderline overdid it. I woke up feeling great, though, so that’s something. When we go again next week I’ll dial down the intensity a little bit.

If I can I’ll try to take a walk today. Mom’s chemo is tomorrow and I don’t think running will be in the cards for me - I don’t like her to be alone afterwards until I know she’s settled and has eaten something and it stays put.

Taters, sorry to hear about the will dispute. I feel blessed that my family has not had estate issues. Of course my grandmother had nothing when she passed, except for some keepsakes and household items, but she’d been giving small items away for years, and had others marked with names. My parents had/have some money, including the house which has not yet been sold, but that’s going amicably as well. Having a will is the way to go!

That’s the thing, there was a will in both cases. German inheritance laws are very weird and super outdated. Or, at least they were in the 90s.

There was also a will with MiL. The greedy sister had been trying to get MiL to sign everything over to her before Mil died AND while she was in hospice. Turns out that sister was addicted to painkillers, which we didn’t know at the time. MiL saw through the sister though. It only got messy because of the granddaughter (husband’s niece) squatting the house, stealing everything in sight and destroying much of the inside of the house. It took us eight months to get her evicted and that was only because of code violations; no running water or electricity to the house. It’s a very long and ugly story. We don’t talk to single relative from that side of the family. They all had their hands out, but didn’t offer one bit of help.

It’s nap time! He snarfed down about 5oz, then had floor time and “standing” time (he’ll support his weight for a couple of seconds) and some Grandpa time, so he got worn out.
Imgur
He’s small enough and immobile enough that he can nap on the couch. But I’ve got a pack-n-play for when he needs to be contained. I need to vacuum, but I guess that will wait till he goes home. Oh well…

Similar story with Monkey. That laser pointer is, according to Monks, the best $2 I ever spent in my life.

Nikki doesn’t respond and, knowing her body language, I don’t think she’s ignoring it - I genuinely think she can’t see it.

First time I tried out the red dot with Monks, though, he lost his MIND y’all. We had an entertaining twenty minutes or so (“Can I make him gallop in endless circles? Yes!”) until I realized he was absolutely heaving for breath.
I was like, “I just adopted this cat OMG imma give him a heart attack!” and switched off the laser.

Y’all, he started crying - there’s no other way to describe the sound. Started searching frantically (imagine losing your car keys when you’re late to your own wedding - that level of “frantic looking everywhere”) until I “explained” to him: I switched it back on (“OMG THANK YOU BABY JEEBUS”) and then switched it back off. Switched it on, switched it off.
Essentially, I was trying to convey that the Blessed Red Dot Of Joy will go away, but it will come back.

Lather, rinse, repeat, until he finally got it.

Unfortunately, he knows where the laser pointer lives. Unfortunately for me, that’s within a couple inches of my weed stash, so we sometimes have arguments. (“OMG red dot?!?” “No, Monks, I’m just packing a bowl.” “OMG RED DOT PLZ?!?” Goddammit, no- ugh, fine." “YAYYY!”)

Today’s chore: removing the disintegrating herb boxes hanging on the deck rail and replacing them with the new ones I made from cedar. This means emptying them, then climbing a ladder to remove the support screws, then removing the rail clamps. The installation of the new boxes won’t happen until after the painting is done. Hopefully all will be accomplished without me ending up in traction.

May the laws of gravity be ever in your favor.

As far as TBRDOJ and cats, Allie enjoys it, but doesn’t exactly have a long attention span, unlike George. Felix (RB) couldn’t have cared less. He’d look at the dot, then look at my hand holding the pointer, then give me the “yeah, Mom, whatever” furry teenager look.

Cat’s can become addicted and obsessed with laser lights, and not in a good way. It’s why we stopped using one to play with our cat.

My sister’s dog loves his laser pointer so much that you can get him to run in circles just by pointing your finger at the ground and moving it around. He searches frantically but he can’t find it. He is also very not smart.

Nut Yay! Congratulations! Dr. Nut-to-be. I knew you when. :confetti_ball: :tada: :piñata:

Moommm What a cutie!

Cookie I will spare a good thought that you not end up in traction. Be careful on those ladders. Or what shoe said

Metal Mouse The phone is a Good Thing. It might be a bit strange to work around at first, but once you get the hang of it, they’re very handy. I mostly use mine to read, text, google, check the weather, and of course, make phone calls.

Happy Toesday to everyone.

It’s sunny and a solid 32F according to the weather app, so I clicked off the heater and let the cats out (“OMG OMG LEMME OUT there’s birds!”) and put out fresh suet cakes, plus some peanuts for the birdies.

I can already hear blue jays yammering the good news to each other.

Neither cat is on board with this “cold/wet :snowflake:” nonsense, but Monks is still enough of a dumba$$ teenage boy to run right out into it … up to his elbows … and then look around with a “WTF?” expression, while Nik sits smugly on the dry concrete steps with a smug expression on her smug face, and her tail wrapped smugly around her smug paws.

Blockquote
Alex Catt doesn’t fart often. Bet when she does it’s “black Hefty bag full of dead skunks lying on an asphalt parking lot in August in N.C.” bad.

I just ran across this, from last week’s MMP. I’m in tears laughing. Thanks.

Congratulations! And have a great time in Scotland. Wow a real plant doc! I am the occasional herbal witch, my patients use all kinds of stuff, sometimes they go to TCM practitioners so I’ve made a habit of checking out this kind of stuff, not in the least because plants DO work and DO interfere with my precriptions (st John’s wort, for example). Of course, plants get ill too, to our detriment. Interesting!
Nellie hope you’re OK and the doc has been seen.
Moooom what a lovely afghan!! And a lovely baby of course. Sorry to hear about the family crisis. People can get downright nasty when there’s money involved.
Everyone have a good day !
Shoe maaaaaah. Good story. Mine love the pointer but get bored quickly nowadays .

Greetings from limbo. I wish it were the fun, back-bending party game kind of limbo. I DID call the “If you have concerns” phone # on the papterwork, but the phone # turned out to be yet another general # for the clinic. The operator seemed baffled, and suddenly I was on Hold again. Then I heard, “Please leave a message.” Beeep. Wait. Whose VM is this? Surgical team? Maintenance Department? Minister of Silly Walks? Dunno. I left a message saying I was in a lot of pain. No idea if, when, or from whom I’ll get a call back.

Taters, what horrible relatives. I’m retroactively angry on your mom’s behalf.

Mooooom, Toby looks so angelic!

I love all the cats-and-laser-dots stories. Do you throw in a catnip mouse or something at the end so the cat gets some satisfaction? Or is that unnecessary?

Thanks for all the assorted confetti and stuff- apparently I won’t find out for definite for another month, but I’ve been told they ‘expect it to be fine’, so… I’m taking them at face value for that.

Nellie, that sounds distinctly unimpressive- I hope they get back to you soon.

nut, how did I miss your big news? Congratulations! :partying_face:I can’t wait to read all about your many upcoming successes. Just be prepared: once you’re a doctor, people will be stopping you at the supermarket to get advice on their tired tiger lilies and anorexic Venus flytraps.

Nut, I missed your big news too! Many, many congratulations :tada::tada::tada::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:!

Nellie, I am hopeful you get to talk to a doc soonest.
