I also missed the big news, nut, and I have no excuses. Congratulations!!! Wish I could send a congratulatory Pee Aitch Dee cake your way.
Thanks - I made it for his big sister, but I also made her 2 others that are at her house, so this one stays here. It’s a perfect kid size, and a good lap size for me when I’m reading and I get a little chilly.
Yeah, he is, mainly because he isn’t mobile. I’m trying to remember when Roxy started scooting herself around - I think she was around 6 or 7 months when she crawled and barely 2 months later, she was running! Well, it seemed that way anyway. And she’s not slowed down since.
Incidentally, hope you hear back from your doc quickly. FCD has an appointment with his surgeon in the morning because of his pain and some swelling. Seems the aches, etc, of geezerhood take longer to resolve than when we were young and limber and stuff. Soothing thoughts sent your way…
Or “Does this rash look infected to you?” or “I had this < stuff > oozing out of my < orifice > - what should I do?”
FCD went to the marina and put down a deposit on our slip and filled out the requisite paperwork. Now we just need to get to April and get it moved to this side of the Bay.
Supper will be ham steak, green beans, cauliflower parm, and a sweet N.O.T. for me - FCD doesn’t want any starch. After too many months of overindulgence, I’m making a real effort to do more fruits and veggies while avoiding sweets (my downfall!!) It doesn’t help that my pants of choice these days are sweats, because COMFY!!! The lack of a snug waistband has been a curse. This will power crap is for the birds.
The Tobster has been returned to his mom, and she’s supposed to let me know if her spousal unit is taking off tomorrow or Firday so I know whether I need to fetch the kid in the morning. But apart from getting supper cooked and on the table, I have nothing but chillage on my agenda for the rest of the day.
nellie can you call the Dr’s office directly, instead of the paperwork number? Medical care in this country is just ridiculous.
Oh, how I wish! Actually, it just now occurred to me that maybe that operator routed me to the surgeon’s cell phone. Maybe? I mean, every other Vm in their system says something like, "You have reached the Lobotomy Department. of XYZ Clinic. Please listen carefully. to the following menu, as some of the options have changed. " The VM I got just said, “Leave a message at the tone.” It didn’t even say, “You’ve reached Dr. ___'s voicemail.”
And I agree: healthcare in this country is badly screwed up.
If I don’t hear back, how long should I wait to call again? Later this afternoon? Tomorrow? Thursday???
An hour. Keep calling. He must have an office somewhere, right? You could Google him and see if any information pops up on where he practices and then call them.
Does your medical group offer a web portal? Maybe you could email his office.
Howdy everyone. Congrats Nut. Hope you hear back soon Nellie. Toby is a cutie pie.
My days are all the same. Move from the bed to the living room recliner. These days I’m watching the Olympics. Move back to bedroom. All this using the knee scooter. My foot still has a painful area that is not where the broken bones were so must have pulled a tendon, ligament or muscle but whatever it is is getting better. Slowly. I will never take for granted the ability to walk again.
I shall be well about the time I move on the 24th I hope. I am super excited for my new house and new town. It’s going to be so different in the real world after living on an island for 30 yrs.
Everyone stay safe and warm.
I got a call back from “Tammy” at the ortho clinic. I have no idea what her job is. She took down the information and said she was sending it to the surgeon’s team. Apparently surgeons don’t deal with patient care any longer. My sister’s knee surgery was the same: you see the surgeon for the initial consult and right after the surgery. Everything else is handled by his “team,” usually a PA. Soon we’ll never meet surgeons at all.
Corporate medicine is not our friend.
His office is in the huge ortho clinic. I wish there WERE some way to bypass the labyrinth, but TPTB are wise to the wily ways of mere mortals and have effectively sealed all alternative routes.
I hear you. It sounds like you’re on your own, medically speaking. I’d feel better if you knew what the non-bone pain was from, but I guess if it’s getting better, that’s the main thing.
FCM the baby is so adorable!
You must be getting sick of hearing about this. Tammy called again. She’d spoken with the surgeon. He said this is very common and to stop the 5-10 minute walks. Okaaay. He said lots of people make the mistake of lying down all day and not getting up every hour the way they’re supposed to. I should get up and walk 50 feet every hour.
The thing is, I HAVEN’T been lying down most of the day. I lie down with an ice pack when I need to and never longer than an hour because the instructions said not to. I’m pretty sure the issue didn’t get communicated accurately–not surprising, as it went through a third party.
I’ll follow orders, though, even though the written instructions said walking 5-10 minutes several times daily is essential to recovery. I asked how long I’m supposed to follow this protocol, but Tammy didn’t know. Why oh why couldn’t the surgeon or at least one of his team speak directly to me?
Yay on the SPCA ap VanGo. Warning though, you may want to take them all home.
unknown, when I was a kid, we had a cat named Tony who was a very not smart kitty. He would attempt to play with spots on the wall.
Congrats on A Thing coming into fruition nut!
Toby is a real cutie pie Moooooom.
When my big bro passed, his daughter from his first marriage hit my SIL up for her share of the house and his estate before the memorial service was even held. SIL told her, Fine. The house is in my name, he owed $XXXX, and his still minor son will need child support. Niece backed down. When my dad’s time comes, I figure the b***h sister to hold things up until legal fees eat up the estate. You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your family.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Evening, all. I’m still around, so that’s good. It seems my next project may actually be progressing. Dunno if they know that delaying the start increases the cost. 2 Months to build a bunch o’ stuff is different from 1 month.
nut Congrats on the Thing.
nellie I hope your recovery continues apace. It sounds like Tammy is a good contact to have at the Dr’s office. If’n you can keep a direct contact with her, that’d be useful.
What was decided? Is it plant doc? Anyway, keep the demons in the basement, in fact kick them into the lower reaches of hell. I’ve got mine that keep trying to creep up the stairs.
Evening all. Did make it to the gym as planned, cycled nearly 5 miles in 25 minutes and played with some of the weights, so that helped out. Finding out my shredder is beginning to fail, probably from my lack of maintaining it, but it worked for two+ years for me, so getting a new one isn’t that much of a bother…probably head over to Wal-Mart tomorrow, they have a good assortment available according to their website.
Tomorrow is swimmin’, I got up to 400 yards Moanday, may stick with that this week and bump it up to 500 next week; not interesting in qualifying for the Olympics, so I’ll take it at a speed I’m comfortable with.
Toby is a doll, FCM; and already has a better head of hair than I do.
nellie, do not hesitate to call again…and again…if things are not what you were told. The surgeon probably has 2-3 other operations tomorrow and you’ll be a fading memory if you don’t let them know (no news is good news in Doc-speak). Be well.
Butters, keep us updated; that move will be sooner than you think. Hope it all goes well.
Ok, I am going to try and call my brother with the new cellphone. Wish me luck.
The herb boxes basically just fell into rotting pieces as we were taking them down. I was more in danger of being knocked off the ladder than just falling off. But it all went pretty well. Painters come tomorrow!
As someone who’s on her feet all day, and then walks to decompress, this hit me in all the feels.
Nah. Keep checking in with us.
Indeed, it is. We lurvses you.
Happy Toosday!
It was 25 degrees at the park this morning.
We had six people and ten dogs, so quite busy, and a few scuffles as the three new dogs are testing the pecking order. Nothing serious, and no blood. Echo was one of scufflers, no surprise there. She didn’t start it though, and she stopped when I called her. Progress! I heard one of the three tried to start up some crap with Echo a second time, but Echo just walked away from her.
I thought there might be some drama today because Barky came. Three people left early because they couldn’t handle it anymore. Also, Barky owner was starting to get a bit annoyed at the barking today too. She has some kind of no bark collar or something and says she is going to get it out and see if it irks.
One nice thing about the three new dogs is that they keep Barky busy so she doesn’t bark as much, but she still barks a lt.
OAOASO’s father died at 9 pm on Father’s Day (years ago). They had spent the day out on the boat and his father slumped over dead on the way home, from a stroke. He went to his father’s house the next morning, and it had already been ransacked by the family and everything of value was gone. His father’s sisters demanded they get all the money, because they are more ‘family’ than the children of the deceased. When one of his aunts died, her children came home from the funeral to an empty house. Everything was taken by other family members.
I honestly don’t know how OAOASO came out of that family, because he is not that way.
I know people who had to hire security to guard the house of the deceased.
My son got nothing when his father died. What the gf didn’t take, his grandparents took. His gf said she was going to LET my son have a few things, and I thought, what do you mean LET?
Not that his father had anything of value anyway.
Congrats Nut!
I hope everything with your back gets straightened out soon Nellie.
I didn’t want to say anything before your surgery, but the guy who used to live next door just had some kind of back surgery. He was in a lot of pain, and he says a certain way he moves and the pain is 20 on a scale of 1 - 10.
I hope you both get some relief soon.
Good Luck with the phone call, MetalMouse
Adam lost interest in the laser pretty quickly. He also figured out it was coming from the thing in my hand and started going for my hand instead.
Toby is a cutie.
That’s great news! Good doggy, Echo.
I can’t believe how horribly some of y’alls peeps have behaved in bereavement times … oh, wait. Yes, I can. Still. I haz a sad for what some of y’all have been through.
… moved from Tx to the Midwest, and I swear, my southern accent has gotten stronger. I think it’s because Michigander people melt when they hear it.
It’s my new super power. Flutter my eyelashes, throw in a “y’all” and everyone here melts. Maybe it’s all the snow and ice - gotta melt for something.
Ah, and if anyone is interested, here’s what brisket prep looks like
That’s a prepared brisket on the left, and the wrapped (un-prepped) on the right, plus the daggers we use to carve the things up.
… with my hand, for scale.
These are actually smaller than average - we got a few that weighed nearly 20 lbs a piece. (Those cows ate well and were quite a lot to chop off.)
… and seasoned & ready for the smoker:
Napped, watched bad hockey. Making Redneck stirfry for dinner.
Yeah. the senior clerk at work hurt her shoulder, and there is a 10 day wait just for an appointment to get an MRI under Workers’ Comp rules.
: crosses fingers for Nut’s tiny plant doc program :
I bet. But glad you’re healing.
No. ((((nellie))))
Hey shoe Can you show one cooked. I wanna see your pit boss results!
