Sleepy Hollow

Also, when is Ichie going to get some new clothes? Those 250 year old duds must be pretty funky.

Because it makes him an Oxford professor of history…explaining his greater level of education than most people had at the time, and, perhaps, how well he has adapted to modern gadgetry and times. He’s got Perspective…

Oh yes, yes, yes. As silly as the show is, I will keep watching it for him.

But I want that coat. Redesigned for the female body, of course, but oh, I want that coat.

Me too. Nothing wrong with hand-waving. I’ve been watching that PBS documentary series on the story of film. Hitchcock was discussed in the most recent episode. We saw a scene from Saboteur or Sabotage or maybe it was something else, whatever. The scene showed Bob Cummings trapped in a cellar. Cummings uses a lighter to set off the fire extinguisher system. He gets wet and mussed in the process. In the next scene, we see Bob on the street, not wet, not mussed, just brushing the lapels of his jacket, and we didn’t see how he escaped.

The series writer said that scene reflected Hitchcock’s Jesuit background – if Hitch wanted something to happen in a movie, he made it happen. Continuity and logic and realism didn’t always matter.

So IMHO we can hand-wave the anachronisms and lack of continuity in shows we like because (1) it works and (2) it’s an accepted film practice.

I’m not comparing these guys to Hitchcock, but there was some nice suspense in these first two episodes.

Enjoy it everybody. Two episodes will probably be my limit. This episode has another couple images that hinted at something interestingly dark in the thinking, but the stories for both were, for me, dumb.

I know you retracted, but we still say "Lef"tenant in Canada.

Oh yeah, it kinda bugged me when he was talking about his eidetic memory and Abbie said “You’ve got a photographic memory” and he didn’t bat an eye, but rather elaborated. Photography was after his time…

Insomnia strikes again, thus I post.

So what happened to the head? We were told the Horseman needs his head to summon the rest of his posse. The obvious thing to do would be to destroy said head. How? I dunno…maybe expose it to sunlight, which the Horseman can’t tolerate. Maybe incinerate it. Holy water, blessed silver…if none of that works, put in in a bucket of cement and dump it in a really deep part of the ocean.

I noticed that, too, but I think he’s intelligent enough to not go bug-eyed at every unfamiliar term, and probably, if anything, is quietly mentally filing away the new lexicon. As long as he himself doesn’t say or do anything obviously anachronistic, I’m okay with it; and even then I’ll give it some leeway for TV purposes.

Well, Ichabod is generally pretty intelligent, at least in a book-learnin’ sort of way, and the HH figured out how to use modern firearms lickety-split.

Methinks this series requires a healthy, heaping dose of “just go with it” for full enjoyability.

But he did discard his gun after firing it once.

I don’t know if the word “photo” existed in the 1700’s, but “graphic” probably did.

I’m thinking some kind of variation of the end of the movie ‘Warlock’

After establishing that witches can’t deal with salt, our heroine buries the evil bible in the Nevada Salt Flats.

I guess the issue is that the head is evidence of some sort, but why the continentals didn’t do something like this - not like they didn’t have boats.

i thought broccoli or possibly brussel sprouts was in there some where. death, war, famine, icky green vegetative thing.

i also noticed the hairstyles. very cute!

Missed it on Monday, just watched On Demand. Yes, I noticed the matching hair styles. When he showered, he also washed his clothes & used the hair dryer on them. (Wouldn’t mind more shower scenes.)

Liked Ghost Clancy Brown & Evil John Cho showing up again. Obviously, this is a show where there’s Dead & there’s Really Dead. Let’s hope Mrs Crane eventually Goes to the Light…

Supernatural has an Abbadon, the burning of bones & – did Ichabod talk about Hunting? Is Ichabod a Man of Letters?

Hey, even Mad Men didn’t use authentic period accents–Brooklyn vs Upper Class Lockjaw. Which I would have enjoyed–but not all the actors were up to that stuff. So I’m not going to complain about this show’s accents. Hey, shouldn’t Xena have spoken some variant of ancient Greek? I don’t mind subtitles but some people do.

Will gladly tune in next week…

I don’t even understand the people complaining about not using proper 1700s accent.

When is this ever done?

Can you imagine a TV show done in a Chaucer-era dialect?

The only time I insist on a proper accent is in demanding that perfect blend of smarmy douchiness that one expects from one’s sommelier.

They usually strive for proper English accents in movies about ancient Rome.

I just watched the pilot today - it was okay by me. Not the best thing I’ve ever seen, but I’ll watch it again.

And yes, ol’ Ichy sure is easy on the eyes.
