Sleepy Hollow

I just watched the second ep. This show really hasn’t found its tone yet. It’s not funny, only intermittently playful. Most of the time it’s over-serious and tries and fails badly to be scary.

For a show this ridiculous and over the top, they need to decide whether to wink at the audience or just embrace the ridiculousness fully.

I noticed at the end of the opening credits that there are FOUR people credited as creators. I think that’s the sum of the problem of this show right there. It feels like a show created by committee and run through sixteen focus groups. I would stick around if the monster-of-the-week was enjoyable, but I just found it tedious.

I’m bailing but my wife is sticking it out. Probably more to do with Ichabod Eye Candy than anything with the show itself. :stuck_out_tongue: I do like the lead actress; I hope she finds something better soon.

I’ve just watched the second episode, too - I’m still not loving it, but I will watch it again. It can take a few episodes for shows to find their feet - I hope that will happen with this show.

He wasn’t really an Oxford history professor. He made that up when random cop asked who he was. He couldn’t say he was a soldier from the Revolutionary War. Oxford explains his English accent and history professor explains his knowledge of the revolution.

Seems that someone has told Crane to refer to Ambulance workers as ‘medics’.

This has been your Sleepy Hollow anachronism of the week.

Well, this time they finally got the title of the Book of Revelation correct, give 'em that.

That encounter was the second time he mentioned it. He first said that he was an Oxford professor while he was taking the polygraph after being picked up by the cops in the pilot.

ETA: Unless I missed something and he was supposed to be lying? I didn’t really get that impression, though.

You may want to take another look at the polygraph scene in the pilot. Crane says he was a professsor of history with Merton College at Oxford before joining the Revolutionary War. He picked a cover story close to the truth.

Ninjaed.

So did the Sandman tie into the main plot in any way or was it more of a filler? As far as I could tell it had to be the latter, except for the fact that it gave a little more of the backstory on Jenny Mills and what happened to Abbie and Jenny in the woods. Although when you really think about it, they didn’t really tell us anything we didn’t already know, so I’m back to calling it filler.

There were some smaller developments though like Abbie growing into the idea of being the second witness and accepting her sister. So while it may not have moved the story forward by much, it guess it did add some needed depth. It also looks like Jenny is going to be brought in as part of ‘the team,’ so if that is the direction, then a lot of this would have been essential to understanding her character.

Didn’t really like this episode. Seemed like they invented a monster, then invented a way for it die, and tied the two things together in an unsatisfying away, all as an excuse to get to explore the sisters story arc.

Now that you’ve all pointed out the matching hair, I can’t not see it.

They also need to take him to The Gap or something. At a certain point, the clothing is just weird.

Yeah, I started wondering about that too. Either write some funny quips into the script for new characters meeting Icky - since 18th century costumes really don’t tend to go unnoticed - or hit the Good Will or get some clothes by the pound. The latter should at least appeal to Ichabod’s apparently frugal nature.

I’m enjoyingish the show so far, despite any flaws. Last night’s episode was the weakest of the three, as filler episodes tend to be. However, I’m still laughing at the name of the car dealership - Geronimotors.

Not to mention smelly.

I missed that!

I liked the show - I definitely think it’s growing on me. I also liked the Sheriff (Clancy Brown) coming back to talk to Abby - I think his character adds a lot to the show. And Cho coming back and being evil-ish. Good to see both of them again.

I don’t know much about fashion, but I assume there are modern clothes that can still evoke that olde worlde style he’d be comfortable with, eg, a greatcoat and pirate shirt (best example I could find ruined by skeeviness of model).

I’m still liking the show. I think it’s at least as good as Supernatural, although it’s not as witty, yet. But I don’t remember if Supernatural was funny right away or if it wasn’t funny until we got to know Sam and Dean’s personalities.

I would like Sleepy Hollow to slow down a bit, not have Abby and Icky getting out of a jam every week. We need time to get to know them.

Also, I was okay with a shaman being conveniently available. If Sleepy Hollow is gonna be like the Hellmouth or the Winchesters’ world, I can accept that there will be knowledge to combat the threat. I did kinda go :dubious: that the particular potion they needed was right there waiting for them.

Are we supposed to trust Abby’s boss? He behaved suspiciously in the first episode, but now he seems okay with letting Abby and Icky do their thing.

I finally gave in to Supernatural when it began streaming on Netflix. Now I’m a fan–but the show was not as witty in the first year. (Have I become addicted to bingeing on TV shows? Do I want more episodes of Sleepy Hollow right now–instead of that silly one show a week model?)

Yeah, Sleepy Hollow has obviously been weird for centuries; I’m sure there are experts of all varieties around. And some of* them* have probably been weird for centuries…

I, too, have noticed mixed signals from Abby’s boss–Captain Irving. Is he a good witch or a bad witch? Or just wishing to let Abby & her weird pal handle the weird stuff he’d like to avoid–like the Sunnydale police?

We haven’t met the Mayor…

Renewed for a second season.

Apparently, the show will only be running thirteen episodes a season, so in lieu of an extra nine-episode order, Fox went right ahead and ordered a second season for next year.

Hey, me too! Phelps Memorial FTW! 0/\0

I was impressed at their ability to evoke the Westchester landscape with footage from North Carolina. The woodland shots had the right feel, to me.

We’ve only watched the first episode, but I’ll keep up with it for a few more, just for the fact that I like the actors, and that mirror thing was creepy as hell. I pretty much hate the “Book of Revelations” [sic] maguffin and the BS about Washington, but if they have a decent MOTW buddy cop/fish out of water groove without too much arc, I’ll stick with it.

I started watching “Once Upon A Time” this week - I should be done the first two seasons in a couple of days. I can keep chocolate in the house for weeks, but I binge like crazy on Netflix.

mr crane and onstar. so fun.
