Slug Cartoon even more obscure

Does sleeping naked prevent diabetes? - The Straight Dope has the usual Slug cartoon, but I am somewhat bemused by the detail

Why does the lady have a string tied to one toe while a sock is being removed from the other foot?

Why is there Arabic text below the bed? What does it say?

What does the English text beside it mean?

FWIW I don’t see that as a string tied to her toe but a line that is supposed to be the side of the bed and I see no Arabic text, just scribble representing the sheets.

The poster is a bit weird humor though: “Sleep Study Insulin Injector” with a picture of something somewhat limp cucumber shaped with an attachment on its end hanging off a jar of “Insulube.” Your mind can fill that in or not.

The writing under the bed is Slug’s signature.

And the doctor is taking off her sock because that’s apparently the last article of clothing remaining before she’s totally naked.

is Slug Arabic?

No.

He’s only quasi-human as far as we know.

I was also thinking the sock might be a visual allusion to diabetes, as diabetic socks are, I think, a pretty well-known thing.

Slug’s toons do leave varying amounts to the imagination, don’t they, just like Peter Pan and the Wizard of Oz.
I could tell you things about Peter Pan
And the Wizard of Oz!

Just add Slug to that list.

In this thread, one of his less ambiguous cartoons is discussed (including link to the picture; NSFW). It appears that Slug is sometimes called upon to provide an alternate picture that newspaper editors can run instead if they don’t appreciate the humor.

Here’s another thread in which another user makes the same observation. At Post #4, Da Boss Hisself notes:

Here, we have The Slug Signorino FAQ, with all the information you’re allowed to know about Slug.

Here, we have a compendium of Slug Art, with a lede pic apparently showing a self-portrait of Slug himself at work.

Well, at least now we know Slug doesn’t shy from side-boob.
