slythe CAN win!

The nationally-syndicated Mark and Brian radio program has a regular contest called ‘You Can’t Win!’ in which callers are asked a series of extremely difficult questions. There are five in each round, but they will only read the next question once you’ve gotten the last on right. The round continues with the same set of questions until someone correctly answers all five in one phone call.

The rounds can go on for months while they work through all the possible wrong answers. In the current round, they had been stuck on question #4 since October 25th. A woman answered the question correctly this morning.

There is a message board maintained for the purpose of discussing the possible answers to the ‘You Can’t Win!’ questions. The answerer gave credit to that board for giving her the correct guess.

After hearing this, I checked out that board. I found that the correct answer was provided by none other than slythe, moderator of IMHO. He even included a plug for the SDMB.

Here’s a link to that board, for those that are interested in how hard these things can be. http://www.insidetheweb.com/mbs.cgi/mb514344 Beware of the stream of graphics that will trail your mouse, but do go look at it.

No one seemed feel slythe needed to be congratulated when I made the above announcement yesterday, but I feel the need to tell the rest of the story.

When I found that messageboard yesterday, I posted my idea for the answer to question number 5 (with a SDMB plug). It wasn’t nearly as difficult as #4, since I saw an answer on the first day the question came up.

This morning, someone (who has more time than I do to call in to radio shows) read my answer. They won over $6000 in prizes. She thanked the message board on the air, and left a thanks on the board for me.

I think, between the two of us, we must have brought a few people to the Cult of Cecil.

Oh, I thought this was about the “Sexiest Moderator” contest, and my first thought was “Of course slythe can win!”
