Smack me, I'm so dense

I still have an AOL account , yes I know :rolleyes: . But old habits die hard and I’ve kept it along with Yahoo.

AOL’s message boards were the first ones that I posted on, way back in 1996, when I first got online. They were fun, interesting, and I loved it.
Now? It seems that the quality of posters is shot to hell. I honestly don’t know what keeps me there. I only post to a couple of boards but I’ll probably stop even that soon.

I swear that all they want to do is fight and troll or bore you out of your mind. That’s why I was thrilled to find the SDMB. This place rocks. I know a couple of discussions have gone on lately that this place is not what it used to be but as a lurker of about 2 yrs. and a new poster, I think it’s a pretty decent place to be. :smiley:

:: smack! ::
What took yah so long?

Welcome to the sane zone. Or the right-kind-of-crazy zone.

AOL is the Microsoft Bob of the Internet, but things could be worse. Mrs. Napier still pays something like $22 per month for an AOL dialup account, even though we’ve had broadband for years. If I was going to talk somebody out of it, I’d prefer it was her.

They went to a ‘free’ service a while back, Napier. I still have my old account because of that. I wonder if the missus is aware of it?

>I wonder if the missus is aware of it?

Yeah, yeah. It makes her “nervous”.

I have tried to explain to her that computers go crazy and suddenly cost time and money for bizarre, unpredictable, otherworldly reasons that have nothing to do with dumping AOL. She remains unconvinced. And it’s not as if I have come up with a sensible plan for keeping them running right all the time, so, here we sit.

And I’m not even sure she still visits the OP’s “couple of boards”.
