smaller beer bottles in Puerto Rico

I just got back from vacation in Puerto Rico and all the beers were 8 to 10 ounces. Why in Puerto Rico are the beers smaller then they are on the main land?

Were they metric? I recall being in Europe and having a choice of beer in 250 ml (about 8-10 oz) or 500 ml bottles. Europe is not Puerto Rico, of course, but maybe PR also uses 250 ml bottles.

Do they use refillable bottles (like many countries do, Belize at least among them and I think Mexico)? It might be a “legacy” issue.

I bought a six pack of 7.0 ounce Bud Light bottles in a Publix store two days ago. So they are used here, as in Seminole, FL, as well as in PR.

The OP says ALL the bottles in PR are smaller, though; not just a few.

I’d be curious about it. In Mexico, all the bottled beer I encountered was in 355 ml bottles; that’s basically 12 ounces.

i didn’t encounter one 12 oz beer there and i looked. i was all over the island too. it was kind of weird.
