I wonder if anyone has counted up how many people have ben killed by the main cast of the show? Lex offed another one last night, Lana’s impaled a number of people on sharp things, Martian Manhunter’s already killed a guy and we’ve barely seen him.
I thought it was nice last week when everyone gathered at the Kent house for Thanksgiving. I guess Chloe’s totally gotten over that one time when Lionel blew up her house in a nearly successful attempt to blow up her and her dad. Where is Chloe’s dad, anyway? Did he go to live with Lana’s aunt and Buffy’s dad?
Cyborg was already on. Last season, I think. He’s supposed to appear again soon.
I would definitely watch a Green Arrow spinoff. I’m a huge GA fan anyway, but I like what we’ve seen of him on the show so far and I think it would be fun.
I can finally watch this show in real time (no cable, now on digital subchannel).
Being not very much of a comic book person I was proud of myself for recognizing Green Arrow’s real name afew weeks back.
I wasn’t sure who the new hero was - that for IDing MM (I’ve heard of MM, but don’t know what he looks like)
For what is worth “handles” are only used in CB (aka GMRS class D), not in amateur “ham” radio (we use call signs)
I learn more about comics than I ever wanted to know watching Smallville. Manhunter Martian who? Green Arrow What? I hope they do Bruce Wayne sometime.
That’s one thing that’s been bothering me for a few seasons now. I can’t keep track of whether Lionel’s supposed to be a good guy or a bad guy- they have him oscillating all over the place, and I never get the feeling he’s “pretending”, but rather that the writers have simply changed their minds again. I’d love to see the “bible” for the show.
I think Lionel wants to see himself as a good guy, but more than that he wants the Kents to see him as a good guy. And if he has to lie, cheat, steal and murder to make them think that, then okay, he will! He’s complicated.
This was kind of a fun episode. I was never a big reader of DC comics so I didn’t know what the Oreo cookie meant but knew it had to be a calling card everyone here would know.
I actually did think that might be Martian Manhunter although I’m not sure why I thought that. Is there any particular reason he’d be after these Phantom Zone guys or is it coincidence and he’s basically just stopping super baddies?
I had to laugh when Lana was telling the doctor about having headaches. Duh! You get knocked out every week. It’s probably a brain tumor.
I’m also enjoying Green Arrow and I’m glad they seem to be keeping him around. It’s good for Clark to have someone to talk to and nag him about doing something with his abilities. It just kills me how Lois refuses to connect the dots on that guy. Green Arrow could take off his glasses and hood right in front of her and she’d be all, “hey, take that Oliver mask off! How dare you pretend to be him!”
I’m still watching, and waiting! I really want Superman to come into his own sometime soon. He always seems to be getting his butt kicked this year (and last) and someone or something always needs to come and save him.
They need to break out of that soon, I mean, he’s freakin Superman! Let him go crazy!
In Justice League/Justice League International by Giffen, MM discovered the joy of eating Oreos, becoming pretty much addicted to them. It was a fun sub-plot in a very fun book.
And his love for them has been referenced in many other comics although recent references to them have called them Chocos.
He still has pretty much the powers he always had. Not as weakened by fire as he used to be, but otherwise not changed much. (He has a mini-series running currently, which I am hoping is mostly ignored when it is over.) And he is still from Mars.
I finally got around to watching this last night. And I’m feeling proud of myself for thinking “I’ll bet that’s Jonn Jonn’z” (or however it’s spelled / punctuated) when Clark first spots him. Bald, glowing eyes, trenchcoat, indistinct skin color (not much light in the shot), and flies. Plus (spoilers for future ep)
I heard that there’s an ep coming up “Justice”, where Clark, Ollie , Aquaman, and the Flash (both established in one-off eps in previous seasons) get together. So I was keeping an eye out for any other potential JL members. I didn’t know the Oreos reference (I know of MM mostly in passing), it’s nice to know that my hunch was right!
Of course, now it looks like we have to wait through a few weeks of hiatus to get anywhere new.
I had a passing thought that the mystery guy might be Manhunter, because of the glowing red eyes (I’d forgotten about the Oreos thing). But what did he do to the Phantom Zone guy? A handprint (that kind of looks like it only has four digits) was burned into the guy’s body. That doesn’t sound like any of J’onn’s powers to me. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
And Lana just needs to go to school somewhere far away or something. She’s a complete waste of screen time.
Agreed, and she’s dragging poor Lex down with her! I personally hoped Lionel and Chloe would get together just cause they’re so talented, but that would be kinda creepy.
As for the killing of the infinitely-talented Batista…my assumptiion was MM phased a hand into his body then made it solid and pulled it out. Don’t know how fatal that would be, but it sounds good.
Could be, except that the hole was definitely smoking. I’ll guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Has anyone else noticed that Clark is already falling into the comic Superman’s power amnesia syndrome? Rather than use his x-ray vision to scan the parking lot full of random boxes, he walks around looking behind each one, forcing him to come face to face with the Phantom Zone guy. The kid only has, what, six powers, and he’s already forgetting how to use them?! Oy vey.
