Smallville renewed for 10th season. [open spoilers for season 9]

Woo! I’m not ashamed to admit, I like my Smallville.

Wow. Can’t believe this series is still going. I watched religiously for the first three or four seasons, then sort of lost interest and quit watching. At that point, I was sort of figuring the show was on its last legs. (How long can you stretch a show about Clark Kent’s high school years?)

Guess I was wrong.

Everyone’s all growed up now. They played around with college a bit, then went straight to everyone having interesting careers.

Clark is at the point now he has a costume of sorts, and is a regular crime fighter.

He still can’t fly. I think that has something to do with him still being a virgin.

Well to be fair the show is long past his high school days. He’s been through college, gotten his degree in journalism, works at the Planet, (been fired and re-hired at least once even), has a burgeoning relationship with Lois and is actively using his powers to fight criminals and super villains in Metropolis. He’s even running around in a black coat with the ‘S’ shield on his chest because he’s learned the value of keeping a separate identity. (Though recently he’s learned hiding yourself from your allies can have unforeseen consequences in the vein of, ‘it’s easy for people to pretend to be you if you’re just a voice on the other end of a phone’.)

Hell he’s one epiphany and a bright costume from being Superman at this point. Bastard still hasn’t been allowed to fly though.

I like the show but it’s long since time for it to end. Give me a fade out on Clark flying over Metropolis in costume with the John Williams score in the background and I’ll be good.

After 9 years???

I haven’t watched regularly in forever, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the show’s creators were adamant against him flying in the series (except for the season 4 premier, of course).

Clark abhors costumes. I’ll be disappointed if they stick him in the red & blue tights at the end. I like the trench coat look.

I know, right? He did recently make it clear that he is now in complete control of his abilities. Complete control. wink, wink, know what I mean? Of course Clark and Lois are still completely in their pajamas when some mystery interferes so Clark never gets a chance to try out his control.

IIRC, he’s also flown twice while dreaming; call it The Sleepwalker From Krypton, or something.

Yeah, he can fly whenever he gets taken over by red kryptonite or anything else that overrides his inhibitions. He can run up the side of a tall building really easy, and can sprint to the north pole in what appears to be mere moments. He doesn’t really need flying for much, except he has to fly coach across oceans. I was kinda surprised at that, because he can swim at super speed, if not just run across water.

He is no longer a virgin. Unless I am grossly mistaken he has

Banged both Lana and Lois

The inconsistent quality of the show annoys the heck out of me. One week it’ll be monster-of-the-week-with-a-side-of-angsty-romance and then they’ll throw in a couple good weeks of interesting plot.

Count me as another one who is consistenly surprised that this show is still on the air. I watched occasionally in the first couple of years, then completely forgot about it until a couple of weeks ago when I channel surfed across it and went “WTF? They’re still making this show?”

Turn him into fucking Superman already.

I’ve seen maybe 3 of these shows over the years near the start of the series. 10 years and he *still *can’t, or won’t, fly and wears a trench coat? Do other super people and/or Kryptonians fly in this show or is this just some performance anxiety issue he has?

I’m not a Smallville expert, but I thought every time he got close something would happen to interrupt? Maybe he banged someone under the influence of red kryptonite or something? I don’t think that would count.

Yep. J’onn flies all the time, so did Kara when she was on there. Zod and the rest of the Kandorians can all fly as well.

It’s a problem unique to Clark which makes extra sucky.

Lana briefly gained powers the same as his. I am not certain if this is the first time for Clark or if it was just notable because it caused earthquakes in the surrounding area.

Not sure if spoiler tags are required but, heck, better safe than spoiled.

I assume he and Lois are doing the nasty. Wouldn’t be surprising since they’ve completely avoided the control/restraint angle.

Plus, of course, Hawkman – since a Hawkman who doesn’t fly would be creepy and disturbing.

Only slightly more so than a Hawkman who does fly, really.

I haven’t seen this show in years, but I think Clark did sleep with Alicia (remember her?)

One webcomic’s take on this news.

Plus the Legion of Super Heroes all have flight rings, although they deactivated Clark’s.
