Looks like there isn’t a thread on it yet, so I thought I’d take it upon myself to provide one.
Clark is really not being sneaky with his powers around Lois and Lex. Luckily, we know that in the future, Lois won’t be able to match up Clark with Superman even with many more obvious correlations happening under her nose.
The appearance of Michael Ironside worried me. He always plays characters that don’t take any nonsense, and he will be persistant as a Luthor if he’s given any reason to look closely at the Kent family.
The criminal in the towel is really lousy at wielding his shiv. Not only was Lionel not killed, he was able to walk (and returned to general prison population) just a couple days after being stabbed.
Clark was overdoing the heat vision. He risked the lives of those soldiers in the black helicopter, and blew up T1000boy when he was already disabled by Lois’ taser rifle.
I was surprised that Chloe was found this early in the season. I expected that story to drag out a lot longer. At least we’ll still be wondering about Lana’s tattoo and the other 2 crystals.
As much as I love having Chloe back, I’m kind of disappointed that she was found so early in the season. I was hoping that would take some time, build up a little more suspense.
And T-1000 boy–did he die far too easily, or was it just me?
Clark, Clark, Clark. Why don’t you just hold up a “Look At My Special Powers” sign? He’s not even trying to be careful anymore, is he?
I had lots more to say. But then the phone rang and I lost my train of thought. I’ll come up with it later.
I’m surprised he didn’t seem too upset about vaporizing somebody. Or that Lois wasn’t, either ("Gee, that’s funny. This thing is only supposed to stun people… not vaporize them… and my dad sent people out to use these on me???).
I guess they’re all done being teenagers, now. They can show more skin without skeeving people out. Okay, Annette. You’re up next.
Wouldn’t Lana have sold her SUV?
I was wondering about Lionel being able to walk around and carry stuff the day after getting stabbed, too. Maybe he got the good drugs…
Blowing up melty-metal-lad bothered me – Superman doesn’t kill, not on purpose. And he’s beside himself if someone dies accidentally on account of him.
Clark seems a little too easy about killing someone. Perhaps they’re going to argue that Superman’s abhorrance of taking life comes later in his maturing, I dunno. (Or perhaps the Superman character has changed a lot since I read teh comics…)
I’m assuming that melty-metal-lad will return (there was a bit of character development with him, which seems odd if he’s so easily dead… although, of course, they did that all first season with the various super-powered-by-kryptonite-meteor folks.)
Yeah, I wondered about how easily they shrugged off killing the Terminator there. It’s possible they didn’t really consider him human, but he was written like one. He’s probably not really dead.
I’m not happy at all with the way the folks in charge of Smallville are taking liberties with the whole franchise. It changes the dynamic of the Superman mythos:
Lex (with a full head of hair) and Clark were friends up until a chemistry class accident in high school. Lex went bald, held Superboy responsible, and turned into the evil genius we all grew to love.
Lois didn’t exist for Clark/Superman until he grew up and moved to Metropolis. Lana was his OTL until they parted ways in that blurry time between graduating high school and Clark getting hired by Perry White.
These were the major events in Superman’s life that shaped (along with Jonathon and Martha’s upbringing) what he did as a grown-up superhero.
And what’s this crap about a holographic/mystic birth father sending him to Earth to rule? Lara and Jal-El were kind, loving parents who only wanted their son to live when the rest of their civilization was doomed.
Nope, I’ve washed my hands of this show after the first two seasons. It’s just too much for me to deal with and remain sane.
Don’t know if it’s been discussed here, so spoilers ahoy!
Unconfirmed WAGs are saying that it’s not actually Jor-el, but General Zod, and that Clark just spent the summer in the Phantom Zone with him, Non and Ursa… “whoa… the circus must be in town…”). Kneel before Zod!
Especially considering as how they’ve got Terrence Stamp doing the voice of Jor-El.
I would just like to say that I am so proud of them for adding another alliterative name. Lois’ dad, General Lane, is actually named “Tom” or “Dave” or something. But he’s a three star general, so he’s actually Lieutenant General Lane, or, if you want to go with whole four-and-four theme, LGEN Lane.
Yeah, Jor-El. Thanks, Eth. Don’t know why I drew a blank on Papa’s name. But now doesn’t your boxed item cast doubt onto the motives of Dr. Swann?
And that’s another addition I’m peeved about. The maturation of Superman was a journey of self-discovery. This new Superman is getting spoon-fed everything.
I’m not as much of a DC Geekboy as I am a Marvel one, but I believe that that origin is at least 1-2 DC Universe Reboots old. (As in, I’m pretty sure that DC has already rewritten the Lex and Clark origin at least once. And if they did it, and they’re licensing Smallville, I can’t get upset about Smallville making their own changes for their own version of the DC universe.)
That said, no licensed TV/Movie property of a comic book has ever, to my knowledge, been entirely faithful to the source material. I do not blame Smallville for its diversions. they’re not trying to tell you the Superman origin story. They’re trying to adapt the Superman origin story into a WB-palatable drama.
