Smart Trump Idea Of The Day

Are you talking about the helicopters? Not only did Obama not say the same thing, it wasn’t an “AF1” issue.

Anyway, Trump will likely continue his displays of off-the-cuff ignorance, 140 characters at time. Regardless of which political party he sort-of represents, I wouldn’t look to him for wisdom anytime soon, or indeed any kind of moral or ethical example.

Listen to you.

Back in 2009, President Obama expressed concerns about cost overruns for a new set of presidential helicopters. At the time, the Pentagon’s contract with Lockheed Martin Corp. to develop a new fleet of helicopters, which are dubbed Marine One when the president is aboard and also shuttle other government officials, had reached an estimated $11.2 billion — nearly twice the original $6.1 billion estimate.

How do you not read that as Obama saying back then about Marine One what Trump’s saying now about AF1?

Unreal.

You said, and I quote, “Obama before him said the same thing in regards to a different AF1 M1.” Obama wasn’t talking about Air Force One at all - he was taking about the helicopters which are occasionally known as “Marine One.” At the very least, your statement should be rewritten a little for accuracy.

But, sure, Obama expressed misgivings about a military expenditure specific to the Commander-in-Chief and asked the issue be revisited, while Trump tweeted about a similar expenditure and demanded its cancellation, later following-up with “I think it’s ridiculous, I think Boeing is doing a little bit of a number.” which strikes me as arguably slanderous against a major corporation that fulfills a wide variety of military contracts, and it doesn’t even seem he got the “number” correct.

Even we grant for the sake of argument that the issues are comparable, Obama’s approach was mature (or at least I’ve not heard evidence otherwise) while Trump’s was shoot-from-the-hip stupidity (or at least I’ve not heard evidence otherwise).

You’re replacing a president who thinks before he speaks with one who barely thinks at all, it seems. Good luck with that.

Yeah, Bryan’s point should be obvious to pretty much everyone. I don’t think anyone in this thread is saying that questioning the cost of replacing Air Force One is wrong in and of itself. A President should be on guard against unnecessary costs. I think most people here are saying that Obama dealt with the issue like a grown up, expressing his concerns in a measured manner and working within the established processes for reviewing and revising the project plan. Trump sent a goddamned tweet, showed no depth or carefulness of thought, and got key facts wrong. HeweyLogan, do you really not see the distinction being made?

He’s been blinded by spray tan.

So far, this whole Trump-as-President thing has been a real tweet, hasn’t it?

Trump has a backup plan in case his job as President disappears: he is staying on as executive producer of The Apprentice:

By cyber-bullying union leaders Trump is giving a national audience to those who work tirelessly for labor. Class consciousness, here we come. Now that’s some real 32D underwater Parcheesi. Checkmate, liberals.

So what’ll have higher priority on his schedule; production meetings or cabinet meetings?
