Smiley Voting - Round 2

253 refers to the number of people who have voted, not the total number of votes cast for each smiley.

Total votes cast for each smiley = 602

137/602 = 22.8%

pan

I note that both yuk and whoosh got more votes than nervous in Round 1…

…not that I care – vote foil!

I think the “no new smilie” didn’t get that many votes because if you don’t like or use smilies, you most likely would not vote at all.

Lordy, do I hate smilies.

Nenya_Elizabeth, Balor - every poster should periodically check ATMB once in a while (and read the FAQ threads listed therein) to see if there are new issues at the board. I’m not going to drag posters by the ears and force them to read ATMB.
And I don’t think the smilies issue is important enough to warrant a board-wide announcement.
But if a poster wanted to start an MPSIMS thread discussing how seeing the Cecil smiley made them start celebrating on hilltops with loud celebratory singing I wouldn’t stop that person.

You mean there are more important issues than this?

Biggirl - I agree with you that the “no smilies” vote will be under-represented in a poll such as this one, but what can you do?

Smashie is losing to SMACK?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Well, at least the race for second place is interesting, even if it is pointless.

I find it interesting that, as more and more votes come in, the percentages are remaining fairly constant.

55% of us like the smack, at least as a second choice (I voted for smack and smashie).

As far as the race for second place…a preview of the next election, maybe? (Go smashie for New Smilie #2!)

I don’t get Smashie. What is he supposed to convey? Why should I care about him? What does he stand for? Will he raise my taxes?

Thank you, dear. I see your point, and you are right…it WOULD be kinda nifty. I just thought it was cute. And I got to thinking that a little Scotti Dog would be kinda nifty, too…only that DEFINITELY wouldn’t be universally useful. In fact, it would be the least used emoticon in the history of message boards.

I thought that dubious and hijack would be the ones that would be the most helpful.

Smashie stands for everything that is right in the world. Motherhood, puppydogs, homemade apple pie, that’s what a vote for Smashie means. Of course, it appears we have a great many mother-hating, puppy-kicking, cake-eating members that voted against our beloved Smashie. It saddens my heart to see such a stand-up smilie falling behind in the polls. Where’s the crying smilie when you need one?

Not voting for smashie makes the baby jesus cry and the terrorists win.

Smashie – soft on trolls, soft on the causes of trolls. Vote Foil!

Well, for a serious :stuck_out_tongue: answer as to what Smashie means: Smashie was a famous smiley on the temp boards in February '02 when we got hit by a hacker. Otherwise known as the Winter of Our Missed Content (coined by, I believe, Lynn Bodoni.)

And I see that Smackie still looks set to win…

Ok people, it’s smack, get it? Smack. Not smackie but smack. If you’re gonna refer to it at least use it’s correct name.

Don’t blame me. I voted for Kodos.

Arnold, please do elaborate on exactly which part of your Swiss neutrality made you put the “NO NEW SMILIES!” choice on the top of the item list. In all capitals. With an exclamation mark.

I don’t get hijack. It’s a nice drawing but isn’t the icon sort of superfluous?

[hijack] It is vital for our society to restrike the balance between security and freedom. [/hijack]

I believe that the preceding method is clearer than using one or two icons.

There would thousands upon thousands of smilies to choose from. Each would be a work of art, simple, expressive and clear in meaning.

The Board would nevr suffer lag

And it would only eat OPs during a special sacrifuce under the crescent moon.

Cecil would be elected President and fix everything.

Chocolate would be free and eating it would have the effect of an hour of aerobic excercise.

And Lucy Lawless would send me loveletters instead of restraining and cease-and-desist orders.
But since I live (mostly) in the real world. I’m voting tin-foil.

It’s all about Evil, baby. Think of it…

-Smack is ambiguous. What does it mean? It’s too open-ended to be useful.

-Smashie is just utterly useless, and promotes violence. Columbine wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for Smashie.

-Hijack will simply encourage people to hijack threads.

-Sherlock could only be used if we had some sort of mystery to be solved on the Boards. The only mysterious that would routinely come up would be trying to find out who a Sockpuppet is. This would only encourage sockpuppetry and outing.

-Dubious is an insult to debate. If a person is dubious, he should be required to say so and to explain why. The dubious smiley will only result in agitating debators and causing problems in the forums.

-Foil will only encourage nutcases like Seethruart to come here and spout their conspiracy theories.

-The Cecil smiley is an obscenity to the Perfect Master.

Evil, however, perfectly embodies what a smiley should be. It allows a person to express a demeanor… a demeanor of evil. Evil is necessary. Evil is good. The Teeming Millions MUST have Evil at their disposal in order to function in an essentially Evil world.

Plus, I’ve been saying for years that we need some sort of “Evil Grin” smiley. just doesn’t cut it.
