Heh. I’ve been doing the same thing except in preview over in that Pit thread. I managed to get the big D to turn into a small D once, but I’ll be damned if I can replicate it. Something to do with shift, I think.

Hey, how’d you do it?

No it wasn’t. I put a space in front of the big grin smilie that time.

:frowning:

It looks like a bug in vB.
The capitol D in the big grin smilie gets lowercased when that smilie is the only content in a post.
The other smilies mostly have lower case 2nd characters, but the frown :frowning: ": ( " works anyway.
Time to start agitating for a major revision to the BBS software!

I’ve been generating the smilies by clicking on the smilie buttons.
Let’s try doing it manually, after waiting 60 sec. for this post to clear.

:d

Same result. Maybe there’s a browser issue here?
My copy of IE 5.2.3 (Mac) occassionally mangles the first couple characters of my post when I preview (in the editing window, not the preview itself).

Well that experiment padded my post count nicely.

The Reason For The Smilie Thing Is That If The Post Is In All Caps Like This One Was Originally, The Software Converts It To Title Caps, I.e., Leaves Only The First Letter Of Every Word Uppercase, As You Can See It Has Done To This Post. One Lowercase Character Should Defeat This.

If The Only Thing In The Post Is The Colon-uppercase D Smilie, The D Is The Only Letter, It’s Uppercase, And It Isn’t The First Character Of A Word. Apparently Because Of The Preceding Space, The Colon Is Considered The Beginning Of The Word. Therefore The D Gets Lowercased, And The Smilie Graphic Isn’t Inserted.

TEST - THE ONLY LOWER CASE CHARACTER IS THIS “o” BETWEEN THE QUOTES.

THAT SHOULD HAVE THE GRAPHIC CORRECTLY.

Capslock On. Type Some Stuff About Something Or Other. Add A Grin Smiley :d Try One In The Middle Of A W:dord.

Sure enough, it killed the smilies. Thanks rowrrbazzle.
