So, here’s a Post in which I Quote Really Not All That Bright.
After posting, I noticed that the capital letters had become lower case: The Post from which the Quote is lifted capitalizes “I” as well as “SDMB”, also the capital letters from Really Not All That Bright’s name has been converted.
I then edited the post to convert the lower case letters back to capital letters.
Upon saving the edit, the capital letters were lost again.
Anyone notice or able to explain this phenomenon?
It doesn’t seem to happen with any of the other Quotes in that Thread.
In this Thread HERE, I am goiNg to QUOTE this pHraSe to see if the CAPS get LosT.
Yeah, but the quoted text in question contained plenty of lower case letters- in fact, it was mostly lower case. Still, the capital letters got converted to lower case.
And the altering of the capital letters in the user name? We do have users who have all caps usernames (I’m pretty sure) and when they show up in quote boxes, I’m sure I would have noticed it they had been converted to lower case.
Either way, in the post linked to in the OP both the quoted username and the quoted text contain mostly lower case letters. Still, the capital letters were converted to lower case.
The board software doesn’t allow a post in all caps-- If it sees one, it automatically converts it to all lower-case. It does not look inside quotes when it’s deciding if a post is all-caps, but it does reach inside quotes when it does the conversion to lower-case.
Some of the above posts ARE all in CAPS. And from some of the above posts, I get the impression that some of us are bewildered by that. How is it done? How is it done?
Just another one of those ancient sacred cryptic secrets that you are only allowed to learn once you become a Level 15 Board Poster.
ETA: In the nearby thread on how to make nested quotes, several posters divulged the secret in varying degrees of detail, risking unmentionable penalties by the gods and ogs and dogs of the SDMB. The secret of making posts in all caps, however, shall remain a mystery for the ages.
Yeah, but this is not what this Thread is about. I’m familiar with the “all caps gets converted to lowercase” feature.
The post linked in the OP is the post that is causing my confusion. This is not an all caps situation. Nevertheless, the caps still got converted.
