Testing all caps with regular quote

no, all-caps is much better!

What I actually posted:

NO, ALL CAPS IS BETTER!

YES, ALL CAPS lS BETTER!

ADD A SINGLE LOWER CASE LETTER IN WHITE, LIKE SO: x

ALL CAPS ALWAYS ENHANCES DEBATE ARGUMENTS AND IS A PROVEN EFFECTIVE MARKETING TOOL OF NIGERIAN BUSINESSMEN.bbbbb

yeah, i know. What i was testing was something odd i saw in another thread, where someone’s quote lost all capitalization. It seems weird that it ignore the quote when checking to see if you type in all caps, but still affects the quote.

See, your white x doesn’t stop it this time.

Wait, I just realized… sometimes we get posts from folks without any caps. Typically they are poorly written and run on without good paragraphing. Suddenly it dawns on me those were probably typed in All CAPS, and the board software “fixed” that.

Now if it could just put the rest of the post in proper grammar, paragraphing, and make it make sense.

That’s because the board is very stupid.

Honestly, I’m not even sure why this “feature” exists. There are times when all-caps make sense, for humor or emphasis, and if someone did it often enough to be obnoxious, then (a) people could take it as a cue to simply put that person on ignore, or (b) a mod could warn the person to stop doing it.

This is probably one of the most obnoxiously nanny-board-ish things about this site. I mean, even the “taboo to call another poster” words like cunt and motherfucker aren’t filtered out; we’re trusted to *understand ourselves *when it is and isn’t appropriate to apply them. Since, y’know, we’re all big boys and girls here.

Nope. As you see in my previous post, the software automatically capitalizes letters after a period and space.

I’m also not sure there’s a way to shut it off that isn’t a hack.-

This is the only board of this type (vBulletin) I’ve known of to have this “feature.” Turning it on in the first place is probably what took the effort.

I’ve seen at least three.

I may just be conflating with other types of boards, then. Or you have the bad luck to post at a bunch of places who don’t trust their posters to be grown-ups and make their own decisions about language.
