Smoked Trout: any serving suggestions?

I have been given a couple of smoked trout fillers, and - short of the “fork into open mouth” technique - I have no earthly idea what to do with them.

Mind you, I’m not above simply flaking it apart & shoveling bits into my mouth (and sharing with the cats, of course) but I was hoping for some other ideas?

The Googlez inform me that it can be mixed with cream cheese to make a dip, which frankly, sounds kinda awful.

Would it play well with pasta somehow? Other pairing ideas?

If I had these fillets, I’d take a tortilla and spread cream cheese on it. Then I’d spread crumbled trout over the tortilla, along with some minced green onions and capers. Maybe some minced jalapenos or sweet peppers.

Then I’d roll the tortilla tightly, wrap in saran wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for a few hours. Slice into 1/4 to 1/2 inch slices and serve with a dry white wine.

That sounds delicious @kayaker and I’d never have thought of it!

Keep 'em coming!

Savory toasted bagel (onion), spread plain cream cheese, spread layer of flaked smoked fish. Done.

If you want to fancy it up some, add a few capers and minced onion.

I make a smoked trout sandwich on a lightly toasted soft roll with melted horseradish cheddar and coleslaw.

A Polish grocery store near me sometimes has ‘egg salad with smoked traut’ (sic) that is beyond delicious. They don’t offer it often but I buy it every time I see it. When they don’t have it, I leave distrout.

Smoked fish is very good in an omelet.

{shakes head in disbelief}

In a baked potato, with sour cream. Flaked of course.

Over pasta in a creamy Alfredo type of sauce.

Crumbled into scrambled eggs.

Smoked trout/lettuce/tomato sandwich. I’d do this with sourdough toast.

Honestly, I’d never get much past cream cheese and a bagel because that is sooooo good.

If all else fails, just ship it to me

Toasted English muffin, chive creamed cheese, thinly sliced tomato, flaked trout, perfectly poached egg.

Oh, a T.L.T. sure! Sounds good.

I like the way you think.

Possibly combined with the TLT idea, above …

This sounds good but I think I"d sub Hollandaise for the cheese for a smoked trout eggs Benedict.

For my birthday one daughter sends me a package of smoked whitefish, smoked salmon and smoked trout, and this is exactly what I do with them. You can also make whitefish into a salad - I haven’t tried it with trout but I bet it would work.

Deviled eggs

This. I had smoked trout Benedict for Sunday brunch at Santo in Boulder back in the Before Time. It was very, very delicious.

Growing up, Sunday’s evening meal was always fend for yourself. One of my dad’s favorites is smoked oysters with Ritz crackers.

Every time I see this thread, I want smoked oysters with Ritz crackers. So, if I ended up with smoked trout, I would probably put it on crackers. Maybe a bit of cream cheese to keep it in place.

Good by itself with scallions, capers, lemon juice, dill, flavoured mayonnaise or creamy cheese and cracked pepper. Better still on Triscuit, brioche or bagels.

Would travel well with eggs, quiche or sushi rice.

Having many trout farms nearby, I’ve had occasion to try trout liver paté. If you ever get that opportunity, that on a chunk of lefse or other dainty cracker, with a little cream cheese. It’s amazing.
