a few months ago, the news reported that people caught a couple of snakehead fish in the Potomac River, but I haven’t heard anything since. So does anybody know if they caught any more, or have the snakeheads vanished into the native politician population?
Yes, within the last two weeks there has been at least one caught. I don’t remember where it was at though.
Is this that Chinese creature-from-the-depths-of-Hell type of fish that was discovered in a Virginia pond a year or two ago? It had the ability to “walk” to neighboring bodies of water, right? I know they tried to contain the thing in just that one pond.
Are you saying that the pond group – or other specimens – have found their way to the Potomac?
Yup, they’re back. Click on the snakehead link on the right.
That’s what the press says. They apparantly caught a few jeveniles. If a breeding population got into the Portomic, the say, we’d be screwed like a Thai pre-teen at a NAMBLA convention.
There have been 9 caught in the last 8 weeks. The locations have been all around the Potomac river: Fairfax’s Pohick Bay, near Marshall Hall in Charles County, twice in Little Hunting Creek.
Yeah, it’s probably safe to say they are in the Potomac.
I was just reading about snakehead fish caught in the Potomac River a few mintues ago. Seriously. Look at this site:

It says they have indeed been caught there!
They look ever so creepy and one article says they have canine-like teeth. Another article though says this type do not attack humans.
