Sneakers with jeans: yay or nay?

I always kinda thought the point of jeans was that you could wear almost anything with them? For the record I will wear almost any kind of shoes/sandals with jeans as appropriate.

Now the track suit / dress shoes combination doesn’t quite work, IMO.

If I HAD a nice, comfortable pair of flats, I would. But the last couple of times, I wore my sneakers because they were the most comfortable pair I had.

I’m with Eve. I really hate the way clunky running shoes look with a nice suit or skirt. Now, I’m not a shoe maven and I’m hard on shoes, so fancy, expensive ones don’t last any longer or feel any better than the cheap ones, which is why I swear by $10.00 black flats or pumps from Payless. They’ve gotten me through all kinds of things, although after 2 hours of nearly continuous standing during an Evensong service and the rehearsal which preceded it, I found a pair of Dr. Scholl’s inserts made them more comfortable.

The reason for no sneakers for ballroom dancing was they do interfere with spinning and sliding (I’m learning cha-cha, waltz, tango, and foxtrot). I picked up a pair of nice, black loafers at first, but I’m still trying to find something which will be comfortable through everything. You see, I’ve got wide, flat feet, which means last night my arches – or what would be my arches if I had any – were sore. Next week, I’ll try my standard, black flats.

Actually, that’s one other reason I don’t wear fancy running shoes – arch support doesn’t work for someone who doesn’t actually have arches!

*T-shirts * are still okay with jeans, right?

Just as an aside–I never thought I’d find a genuinely comfortable pair of heels until I went to a store that specialized in dance shoes. I am now the owner of a really elegant and genuinely comfortable–more comfortable than some hiking boots I’ve owned–pair of heels. I’ve ruined the suede soles by wearing them in clubs and on the street, but I don’t really care. The shoes can be re-soled. And I can always get another pair for dancing! Yeah, my lovely black heels were slightly expensive, but they really didn’t cost much more than lots of the shoes in department stores. And the service you get in the dance places is often really incredible.

I will never buy a pair of heels in a non-dance shoe store again.

Oh, and I think that jeans and sneakers go together pretty naturally. It’s the classic casual thing to wear.

Um (sheepishly), as long as they don’t say anything on them?

Really that’s just my taste and I don’t expect everyone to follow suit.
That other thread really was just about dating. And if I think certain things look classy on me it should be acceptable for me to desire that look in an SO.
Right?

Do they make t-shirts that don’t say anything on them?

Yes. I have eight.

Lands’ End has millions of 'em—I have a drawerful, in various colors, that I wear with a skirt and pearls.

Misnomer

Yep, check Cavalli. Great graphics that are pretty hip but without looking like concert Ts.

There is one T-shirt with text I’m anxious to wear soon though. My son and his buds have a T-shirt business and he just told me about one of their latest designs:

MARRIAGE IS FOR QUEERS

The vote on Gay marriage comes up in November here in Texas I’m embarrased to say. I be in line wearing it proudly.

I really was kidding, you guys. It’s just that with jeans, I tend to wear t-shirts that say stuff (in fact, right now I’m wearing jeans with a black, long-sleeve T that says “Georgia O’Keeffe Museum” :D).

I want one!!!

Seriously: if I can pay to have one of those sent to Virginia, please send me a message through my profile!

Misnomer, I caught the wink after the fact thus the answer to what was meant to be rhetorical, oops.

houseofsprouts.com is the website for the shirts. If that doesn’t work I’ll talk to my son about it.

While I get the symbolism (I think), the bleeding heart graphic doesn’t really work for me. Also, there don’t appear to be any available in their “shoppe” at the moment: it appears on the front page, but then nowhere else. But thanks for the site – I’ll keep it bookmarked!

I knew you were kidding, Misnomer. No worries.

I’m now looking for a good pair of casual black shoes to wear with my jeans (and work clothes). I used to like shoe shopping.
