I thought the opening was weird, since it was taped and not live. Have they done that before? I thought it was fun idea but didn’t really work.
Other than that, I thought this was another strong episode (after the previous week’s stellar Dwayne Johnson episode.) Granted, I’m a huge Tracy Morgan fan and laugh at most anything he does. It was great to see so many callbacks to his time on the show w/ the Brian Fellows and Astronaut Jones sketches, and him telling Lorne to go get him a soda.
My memory is fuzzy, but I really liked the Scared Straight sketch, the gameshow for geniuses, and Tracy’s take on “Really?” during Weekend Update.
Oh, and Kelly Clarkson is gorgeous. She looks good w/ a little junk in the trunk.
I missed the opening sketch. I flipped to it just as he punched out the guy at the end (and I don’t remember who it was now, I guess I need another beer).
I like Tracy Morgan somewhat, but he seems so one note it gets to me after a while. Despite that, I am a nut for the Astronaut Jones sketches. I love the kicky tune that he sings which is pretty much longer than the sketch itself.
Scared straight was pretty funny, but they needed a better ending. They’ve done that before already with the cons taking the police car, they should have fingured something else out like have them try to escape on a riding mower or soemthing.
Yes, Tracey seems to be able to only do one character.
Scared Straight was good, but the best sketch was the last one, with the Rocket Dog movie. It was one of the highlights of the season.
I would assume it depends if you like Tracey Morgan or not. I don’t, so I didn’t particularly like it, though I did notice that the sketches seemed shorter than usual. Perhaps SNL is taking the long criticism of one-joke drawn-out sketches to heart? (Of course, Tracey Morgan is a one-joke drawn-out sketch himself.)
I always liked Brian Fellows Safari Planet.
That guy!! Get me a soda bitch!!!
Tracy Morgan really only has one note - a violently over-enthusiastic dumbass. But he’s hillareous.
I had to turn it off after Weekend Update, the whole thing was so bad. TM is absolutely hilarious on 30 Rock, so there’s no doubt that he can be great with some talented writing, but there was none to be seen that night (I thought even the WU was the worst in recent memory, too).
The only thing that Tracy Morgan has ever done that I have laughed at is Astronaut Jones and I always laugh, and this installment was even better, as the joke in the sketch was funny, and it was not just the funny and old footage intro, which I think is a hoot. The only thing I don’t like about 30 Rock is Tracy Morgan. He is so damn lucky to have that job.
