What the fizzle is Snoop saying in that Daimler-Chrysler commercial? I keep trying to turn on the closed captioning, but I’m not fast enough on the button. I know I’m obsolete, but I might take offense if somebody called me “mopacopa.”
I don’t know but here’s the commerical for those who haven’t seen it.
According to the New York Times: “Thank you Mocha Cocca. Chrysler and Jeep came up on beaucoup awards and Dodge trucks last as long as the D-O-double gizzle. Plus, I got the hook up nephew, for sure.”
The New York Times, as always, the newspaper of record, even when it comes to translating Snoop-speak.
For shizzle.
“All the nizzle that’s fit to prizzle, dawg”
That’s why they called it “The Gray Biatch.”
Snoop’s got the worst golf swing I’ve ever seen. Sorry, I mean the worst gizzle swizzle.
But they didn’t translate it, they just transcribed it. What does “I got the hook up nephew” mean anyway?
I thought that “nephew” was a term of endearment in this context, but I don’t know what he’s referring to when he says, “I got the hook up”.
But, I think the next line of the commercial is Iacocca saying, “are you saying that now everyone can get an employee discount?” (fo shizzle, Iaca-zizzle)
So maybe Snoopy Dogg was really saying he had a nephew that could hook him up with a good deal.
Well, from the NY Daily News, the full translation of “Thank you Mocha Cocca. Chrysler and Jeep came up on beaucoup awards and Dodge trucks last as long as the D-O-double gizzle. Plus, I got the hook-up nephew, for sure” is “Thank you, Mr. Iacocca. Chrysler and Jeep have won a lot of awards and Dodge trucks last as long as the Dogg. Plus, I own them myself.”
Good that we have the New York papers to cover this so thoroughly.
Not quite. It’s:
“Thank you, Mr. Iacocca. Chrysler and Jeep have won a lot of awards and Dodge trucks last as long as the Dogg. Plus, I got a sweet deal on it my man.”
Nephew is a term of endearment, and the hook up refers to the employee discount (which the D O double-G thought he was getting special, but Mocha Coca reminded him that we ALL can get that “hook up”).
And yeah, they should have let him work on that golf swing for a couple of takes before calling it a wrap LOL.
Hmmm… I’m convinced that your translation is better than the Daily News’, Dorjän.
To the DN’s credit, though, I’m pretty sure they got the not-at-all-overused “Fo shizzle” = “For sure” on the linked page correct.
