The Lion is a great pub. In fact, calling it a pub is a bit misleading - it’s not a little country pub that just does beer and pub grub - it’s a good hotel with an excellent restaurant. If I had to be trapped in a pub for nine days, it would be high on my list!
Ice last week … couldn’t get out of my driveway, even with studded tires. I slipped down to the lowest part and was humbled. No way to move, coming or going.
Schools in Anchorage & the MatSu Valley (where I live) were closed for three days. And it takes a LOT to shut down the schools up here!
0 degrees this morning. No temperature – that always makes me smile.
Some snow this week; more coming up soon.
Tea and coffee and chocolate are GOOD. As are car heaters/defrosters that WORK.
75-90F. Humidity 90%+.
Scattered showers.
Ask me again anytime before the next ice age or before the polar caps melt, and I’ll tell you the same.
Warm. Wet. Booorrrriiing.
Mid 90s last week, but a cool front came through and it might only get up to 70 or so today. Haven’t needed the heater turned on so far this season. No significant rain in months.
We had some light flurries here yesterday afternoon in the DC area, but nothing stayed on the ground.
Here in the English Midlands it’s now 5.30 pm (less than two hours after sunset) and it’s already down to minus 5 Celsius (23 F), with 8 inches of snow on the ground. Could we reach minus 10 tonight?
Max temperature forecast for -7C tomorrow, with added fog. Urgh! I’ve got loads to do tomorrow. Today there was a very heavy blizzard all over Central Scotland just as the morning commute got started, and now in the evening they are still trying to get the motorways completely open.
Pittsburgh’s got snow on the ground. 20 degrees, windchill makes it even colder. Brrrrr. I switched from my EMS fleece to my North Face down jacket. I let the car run for 5 minutes instead of a minute today.
I think I’m gonna take the bus to work though - the heat is fully on when I get in and it drops me off right in front of work, no walking from the parking garage needed.
Minus 10.4C (13.3F) at 7am today. That’s very cold for this part of the country, especially as Newark is virtually at sea-level here in the Trent Valley.
Rainy off and on all day, cold…ready for summer.
-5 in Cambridge, but still no snow. The slight thaw over the weekend got rid of all the slippery impacted stuff, though, so at least I can walk to work at my usual speed.
It’s been a joke here in central Scotland. Many people left for work yesterday morning, got turned around without getting there and only got home this morning. Stuck all day and overnight on some of the most busy commuting motorways in Scotland.
We had to put up a friend of ours who couldn’t make it the last 5 miles home because the A737 had ground to a halt. Luckily, he was just outside our village when everything stopped and he could walk to our house from where he left his car (we live at the top of a hill - no way was he getting up here).
I’ve been snowed in for over a week. I have a young baby, so can’t really get out. Pavements are impassable by buggy, and we can only get one car out and my husband’s been using that to commute. I’ve seen one gritter near us in that time, and no roads have been cleared. The people in my street are doing their best to keep the road clear and gritted themselves, but it’s not easy. We’re just not prepared for this weather now - we’ve gone soft from too many mild winters!
It does look pretty out the window, though
It seemed like the traffic authorities continued, for many hours, to allow people onto motorways that were already blocked solid with abandoned cars and jack-knifed lorries. The Transport Minister was basically lying on the news when he said that the snow was unexpected - the Met Office and BBC sites had severe warnings up on Sunday evening.
I’ve been tooling about doing errands all day, and the place is looking spectacular in the bright sun (if a bit on the dazzling-wish-I-was-wearing-shades side). According to the probably unreliable car thermometer: Max temp encountered -9C, min temp - 14C.
That must be close to the day-record low for Newark!
I’ll be in Aberdeen late April/early May. Can you guarantee better weather then?
We had snowman-making snow here over the weekend! Much playing and sledding ensued.
The past few years the weather has been glorious around then.
When I woke up today we had a thick mist. Now, it’s all turned into hoarfrost on the trees, and bright blue skies - picture perfect winter weather!
I think that was me and I still don’t! Even if you have no weather problems, the cold itself is a problem. That is one thing you’ll never get rid of
Right now it’s 70 degrees and cold. Stupid winter
The cold’s not a problem - I find it invigorating!
