Snow around the World!! How's the weather where you're at?

The weather in my part of the UK has been very unusually snowy. It started in late november, and snow stayed on the ground until two days ago when it rained heavily and cleared most of it up.

I haven’t seen snow this good since I was a kid maybe 15 or more years ago. And November is very early for snow here. We usually don’t get much till January, and even then it rarely lasts more than a few days.

It never got too deep by global standards. Only about 15cm, but that’s a lot for here.

Close to twenty inches of white stuff now and wind is whipping. Tomorrow night the temp is supposed to drop below zero.

Happy days are here again.

I heard it was snowing towards the north part of town, but it apparently didn’t make it here to the south part.

And I guess I’m the only one for whom cold makes me physically sick. And, due to a crappy heating system and financial problems, I’m having to try to get through the winter with space heaters. (I’ve done the calculations–it’s actually cheaper.)

I’m a little jealous. I live right at the base of the mountains in Colorado, and we’ve had two bouts of flurries that ammounted to a dusting of snow all season. Tomorrow is forecasted to be 64°F and Tuesday might flirt with 70. A neighbor was running a sprinkler this afternoon.

Last year we had about 40" by this time.

Dearborn. Mich. area got 6 inches this afternoon. The temperature is 20 under normal at 15 or so. It is windy so the wind chill is below zero.
Tomorrow about 3 more and even colder. It sucks .
When the first one of the year comes with cold weather, there are accidents all over. Drivers have to go through a re-training period every year.

North New Zealand.

Boiling. Met office reckoned yesterday was 26degC with humidity making it equivaltent to 32C, however that works. Less smog, dust or Ozone Layer down here I believe, and the sun really BURNS.

Boiling? It was 38 degrees here yesterday in the shade (100 degrees in US currency) and I had to slave away in the sun trying to eradicate the ivy in the backyard that some useless prick planted about 20 years ago.

I am sun burned and my yard is covered with dug up ivy which I know will grow again.

It’s 1F right now. Yesterday I used the snow blower for 3.5 hours to clear blowing drifted snow that was 12 to 30 inches deep. I had 2 inches of ice in my beard when I was done. My face was warm though thanks to the beard. Falling on my back sucked. For about 30 minutes my legs felt like I’d rubbed them with stinging nettles after the warm shower water hit them.

Schools and work are cancelled across lower Michigan. Yet there is a long line wrapped around Ford Field for free tickets to tonights NFL game .
I shoveled for a long time yesterday. Someday I have to get a snow blower. But the city did not plow the street .
Then as I laid in bed at 2 AM, I heard the sound of the snow plows. I knew they were piling snow in the driveway. I thought about getting up and clearing the driveway but i was too warm and comfy. So today I get to chisel the frozen snow all over again.

Sigh…

The last two days it warmed up to near zero, enough to make things slushy, but not enough to make a dent in the 4+ feet of snow everywhere. Today it is -12, with white out snow squalls called for. Everything that got slushy is now frozen, where the plows went by is now extremely heavy and frozen ice/snow, which must be cleared to get the car out.

And tomorrow, another 10 cm+ snow.

Sigh…

Funnily enough, I am also sunburnt from working outside on the weekend. This may have affected my perception of yesterday’s weather.

(Today it is much cooler and raining)

81 degrees today and people are wearing shorts outside. And yes, we’re in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s a fucking travesty (I hate the heat).

For some reason, it started raining heavily about 4am on Monday morning and lasted for several hours. And this during our dry season! Had to get up and close the windows.

How’s everyone doing? I just watched the Weather Channel again this morning and it seems that the UK is suffering through a snow glut. How are you all holding up? I must confess, the pictures are really pretty but that’s small consolation when you’re held hostage by the weather.

We’re cold and snowy today (-20ºC with the windchill - that’s -5F), but after seeing what all y’alls have gone through lately, it’s just a little unpleasant, not a big deal.

This time our part of the country (the English Midlands) is completely snow-free (so far!), but it’s bad north, west and south of us. Still very cold though.

That weird rain the other day finally stopped, but it has turned noticeably cooler at night, at least relatively so. Still toasty when the sun’s up, though.

Heh, I know a Brit who just moved back to London a few months ago after many years in Thailand. Bet he’s kicking himself right about now.

I grew up in Boulder, and remember one storm where the Dad Unit actually said “fuck it” and used the cross-country skis to head over to King Soopers.

Down here it snows maybe once a century. Last time was 2004, and in the aftermath of those amazing one to three inches there were a few books published about it. Cite

Forecast for xmas is 76°…

NONE! Thank you LORD! I’m very much looking forward to my first NON-white Christmas in 40 years.

No white Christmas for Boulder this year. Seasonal total snowfall - 3" (and I think that is a bit generous.) Temperatures are going to be in the mid 40’s to low 50’s all week.
