Snow around the World!! How's the weather where you're at?

About 20 degrees of warming. Slush, brown slush.

Yep!

It’s 21F right now, which will be as warm as it is supposed to be until at least Wednesday. High Monday is forecasted to be a whopping 0F.

The snow has started flying. By tomorrow at this time (depending which weather forecast I watch) we’re supposed to have between 12" - 18" of snow, with gusting winds.

We had some snow yesterday in Maryland, with a light dusting that stayed on the ground in spots and has remained overnight. It still looks kind of pretty out the window this morning, but will probably melt off a little later, as it is supposed to get up into the 40s today.

I could be envious of weather in the 70s or low 80s, but not hotter than that. Muggy July and August is my least favorite time of year. I grew up in Ohio, and am not afraid of snow. Besides, with the big snows we usually get in the next couple of months each year, we also have the promise of snow days.

Right now temp 21F, windchill 6F, very heavy snow, visibility about 200 fet, wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Low tonight expected to be -7F.

High on Sunday expected to be 3F.

On Monday, 2F.

And this ain’t even a blizzard. Just a winter storm.

Brisk.

Record rains and the end is not in sight. Curse you La Nina, you fickle bitch.

I’m inside of a snow globe right now. It doesn’t even look like snow is falling; there simply appears to be snow blowing around from every direction. These are some photos of what it looks like outside right now. Maybe 1/4 of the reason everything looks blurry and grey is because I have a crappy point & click camera, and am shooting through a window screen, but the rest is because it actually looks grey and blurry outside.

Across the street. Some poor sap out front shoveling his car out of his spot. Check out the truck bed nearly filled with snow. That truck couldn’t have been there for more than a couple of hours.

I planned on going X-Country skiing today. Do you think I’m going now? No, sirs. Today is a rum and crappy movies day. Maybe a little cleaning if I feel like it.

I’m in the Twin Cities. We’re in the midst of our biggest snowstorm in like in 20 years. A foot of new snow on the ground already and still coming strong. We culd get two feet before it’s over. My van is snowed into my garage, but I’m too lazy to go shovel the driveway. Fortuately, my association does snow removal. This is the one day a year that association fee pays off.

It’s going to get really, really cold too. We have an arctic blast following the snow that’s going to drop us into double digits below zero (and that’s ambient temps, not windchill). MeanOldLady’s “snowglobe” description is pretty accurate. It’s not like the snow is just falling straight down. It’s blowing and swirling in every direction.

Twenty-five degrees Farenheit. Eleven inches of snow overnight and still coming down. Underneath the deceptively fluffy snow is a layer of ice. Everyone’s either in their home or in the ditch.

My kids all live right across the border from you in River Falls. They’re posting on Facebook about getting buried.

Holy crap. I just looked out the window, and it’s getting crazy out there. Some more photos I snapped. Again, crappy camera, window screen, blah blah:

Cars knee-deep in snow.
More.
This Mini is almost completely buried.

Oh yeah, this is so a rum and bad movies day. Hello, Sailor Jerry.

TheKid asked if she could sleep over at a friends’ house last night. Sure, but they need to bring you home, I will not be able to make it out, and they have a big 4x4. No problem! She has called three times since 10am asking if I can come get her. Child, I have no idea where the driveway is. The snowplows went through on my main road twice this morning, nothing since. The crossroad hasn’t been plowed at all. About an hour ago I had a car almost in my front yard because the driver couldn’t turn. He left the car half in the road, half into a snowbank, walked and got some friends with shovels. He just left.

My sister works off 394 in Minnetonka, lives off 169 in New Hope. On a normal day it takes her 10 minutes to get to work. It took her an hour to get home.

It’s a mess out there. The wind is whipping like nobody’s business.

I’m not going anywhere until Monday. If TheKid has to sleep over at her friends house again? Bummer.

I can’t believe my son’s teen-aged daughter is being told to come in to work. Who the hell is out shopping in that weather?

Ha ha!

They have been vigorously combing the sidewalks around here, and they’re still covered in snow! All I’ve heard all day is snow plows, my windows rattling, leaves rustling, the sounds of car tires furiously attempting to drive someone out of a parking space, revved engines, the occasional siren, and people loudly proclaiming how terrible the weather is. I am so glad no one is unreasonable enough to expect me to leave my apartment today.

Jerks.

Wow, that’s messed up. I hope she told them to take a hike.

I just heard that they actually pulled the mail carriers off their routes today because the road conditions had deteriorated so badly. When the mail can’t even get through, you know things are bad.

I remember meeting your daughter at a Dopefest once. Sweet kid. She probably ought to resign herself to at least one more night away from home, though. I don’t think we’re going to get this mess cleared up any time today, or even early tomorrow. This is a nasty one.

Well-put - we don’t get storms like that often, but that’s pretty much how it goes.

My son had to drive her over to the other side of town. Then they told her she can leave early. Now he has to drive back over there through an additional heavy accumulation to pick her up. Idiots.

This feels like a good place for: Christmas in the Tropics versus Cold Climates

My family had Christmas in San Jose, CA once. It was weird. Shorts? On Christmas Day? Nope.

After further phone calls with the family and TheKid - I’m going nowhere, and it seems she is in the same snow drift. I am now not going to get plowed out until sometime tomorrow afternoon. The stepdad of TheKid’s friend broke something on his truck, so he can’t bring her home.

On the plus side, I now have a tray of brownies all for myself.
