Snow Treasure

‘70 years of Snow White’ shows up in the forum index on my browser as ‘70 years of snow…’ That reminded me of a book I read when I was in elementary school, Snow Treasure.

Snow Treasure is a story that takes place in Norway in 1940. In order to keep millions of dollars in gold bullion from falling into the hands of the occupying Germans, a plan is hatched whereby the town’s children will smuggle the gold under the noses of the Germans to a waiting boat. Even when I was eight I liked learning about WWII history, so I remember really enjoying this book. Of course this was well before personal computers and video games. I remember watching a Jonny Quest episode that involved a Mad Nazi Scientist enslaving a tribe of cavemen to… do whatever it was he wanted to do. At that time it wasn’t much of a stretch to imagine there were Mad Nazi Scientists at large. Today that would be laughable. So I wonder if Snow Treasure would hold the interest of today’s children.

Anyway, just something I thought of upon reading the partial title of the other thread. Have any of you read Snow Treasure?

I remember reading it too!! I think I got it from the school book club which I think was called Lucky Books at the time.

Another favorite of mine was a little league baseball story called Battery Feud.

Do you remember that one by chance?

No, I was never into baseball.

I got Snow Treasure from Scholastic Press. Don’t remember much except the basic plot, and that there was a German who was bad a skiing the kids called ‘Sergeant Sit-Down’.

Oh, I loved that book when I was a kid (in the mid-80s, I have no idea whether it’s still in print or being read).

I read Snow Treasure in the late 60’s…glad to see it made it at least into the 80’s!

They have it at Amazon for $4.99.

I remember reading SNOW TREASURE in 4th grade! great story! Thanks for the memories! I expect that these days-“Snow” would have a diferent meaning!
