I learned to dive in NW PA and we’d do the final certification dive in a quarry, since it was a more controlled environment than the lake. Wasn’t much to see, but you got your free dive requirement fulfilled. There were a few fish, but mostly mud after the first few divers took their dive.
I don’t know about the people who say that diving a quarry is boring. There is purported to be several old cars and trucks, as well as a train at the bottom of our quarry. Not to mention all of the “stuff” people have thrown in the quarry. The water quality is quite high, and I have also heard of “encounters” with massive fish.
When you put encounters in scare quotes like that, it kinda sounds like divers were fucking the fish.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
