For the third time today I’ve read a thread that Snowboarder Bo has inserted his nonsensical catchphrase into.
I seem to recall the mods taking action in the past when people were making repetitive, contentless, useless posts all over the place - i.e., the infamous Grapist. Why is it that Snowboarder Bo is allowed to continue?
It’s not like this is some meme that everyone on the board participates in occasionally (like “1920’s style death ray”) - it’s the same one guy posting the same inane phrase all over the board. It’s not funny, it’s stupid, tedious and distracting.
You’d think that if a lot of people complain about it, then it would fall under the rule of ‘don’t be a jerk’. If you continually do something that you know pisses people off, that’s being a jerk.
I guess I just mentally filed it away in the Regards folder. If they won’t put a stop to lame signoffs, I don’t see why they would do anything about a catchphrase.
I thought he was some sort of SDMB legend/guru with long white bread who normally sits on a big rock and meditate, high up in a mountain. I was honored that one of my thread was graced with his presence/ his legendary phrase appearing so unexpectedly.
He is, but only in his own mind. The catchphrase is an attempt to extend that fame to a wider circle. I fear it’s destined to be successful, but not in a good way.
I remember when my son was three or four. As is the way with kids of that age he’d hear a joke, repeat it to me and be delighted with the laughter he’d elicit. Then a minute later he’d come back and tell it again. And again. And again. And again. After a few too many bouts of forced laughter I’d sit him down and try to explain that you can’t tell the same joke over and over again and expect the same response as the initial telling.
Of course, he completely ignored me at the time but he soon grew out of the habit, as all kids do. Well, most kids.
Because those are specifically allowed in the rules. And because it was never clear that someone was doing it just to piss people off, which is clear of Bo. The phrase makes absolutely no sense. A simple signature at the end of posts may be redundant, but at least it makes sense.
Posting deliberate nonsense is trolling on a message board that is about fighting ignorance. You can’t say that about closing off a post.
