So, a Dingo did take her baby?

Thank you. I understood now.

I always believed it was true. I was just a kid when it all went down, and I was in New Zealand, where I was both semi-familiar with Australia, and not at all familiar with what a dingo actually was (it’s just a kind of wild dog).

But at every subsequent enquiry, I was hoping they’d found more solid evidence to support her story, because it just seemed plausible to me. Nothing about it deserved the ridicule and doubt it got, I thought.

Glad to see that it’s all worked out well in the end. Apart from the dead baby part.

his religion was not a mainstream religion then and probably not even now. They were accused by some of ‘sacrificing’ their daughter.

Her conviction was the verdict of IMHO a kangaroo court ( pardon the pun)

I meant to say "their religion’ I think he was a pastor in their church

Here’s a well-known Australian comedian apologising for jokes she told back in the 80s.

Not only have there been other attacks on humans since then, notably on Fraser Island, but cases likethis one involving a dingo-laborador cross (which happened in a tiny town just up the road from me) have popped up from time to time. Times have changed since Azaria’s death. The idea of a dingo killing a child is no longer too weird to consider.

I’ve argued on this board before that the “dingo killed my baby” thing just isn’t funny and I’ve seen other people defend it as “gallows humor”. Personally, I can never get over the sense of dismay that Azaria’s brothers or sister must regularly find themselves confronted with people mocking their mother’s distress at the brutal loss of her daughter. It’s inescapable on the internet and in popular entertainment.

Here in the US as well.

Sisu,

Are you saying you still do not believe that a dingo killed the baby?

Translation, please.

It is nice to see such apologies.

The term bogan is Australian and New Zealand slang, usually pejorative or self-deprecating, for an individual who is recognised to be from a lower-middle class background or someone whose limited education, speech, clothing, attitude and behaviour exemplifies such a background.

from Wikipedia.

Sort of like trailer trash.

I hope this doesn’t lead to retaliation against dingoes.

is that a crime ? A lot of rich people in Australia behave like bogans. What about our ''richest woman in Australia"?

Know anyone with a pet dingo?:dubious:

This poor woman. Her daughter was killed, she was accused of the crime, spent three years in jail and then spent 30 years under suspicion while the entire situation was turned into a world wide joke.

I imagine she’s happy she’s been cleared but also upset that this is back in the news again.

Hard labour, no less. Very sad tale.

I have a friend that had a dingo mix. I didn’t much care for that dog.

Pets or not, I’d hate to see them harmed. They don’t pose a danger to a child when the adults are watching said child.

No it’s not a crime, and I am very happy to see Lindy and Michael finally vindicated after what must have been tortuous years for them.

And yes, Gina Rinehart is a bogan too.
