So am I the ONLY Doper who watches Smallville?

I like Smallville and Angel plenty. Unfortunately, I like Enterprise and West Wing more.

I consider Smallville a guilty pleasure. I will say that the high point of the series so far was the trampling of Lana by the horse. OH WHAT BLISS to imagine her severely injured, even to the point of death ! But of course it was too much to hope for. Her sighing angsty overly cheekboned presence must be tolerated until the coming of Louis/Chloe(?) one supposes. /me takes deep breath

thanks for the link to the other board Gallow’s Fodder

I like Smallville, and they’ve done some interesting things with the old Superman mythos. Lex remains the most interesting character, although his dad (the Devil) is a force to be reckoned with. Didn’t care for last night’s episode, because: 1) I hate mind control plots; 2) it just seemed wrong that Clark wasn’t immune; and 3) I wish Clark could stay away from Kryptonite for at least a month.

When Chloe used the name “Lois Lane” as a pseudonym, she said that her cousin Lois wasn’t interested in journalism. So is Chloe going to become Lois Lane? Will we eventually get all the other LL characters?

Actually, Baldwin, it didn’t surprise me that Clark was affected. After all, Superman has a normal mind, more or less, and he’s still maturing. Any possible resistance to mental control possible simply hasn’t happened yet, since he hasn’t run into it very often on the show.

And I also took guilty pleasure in Lana’s injury. I won’t say that she isn’t attractive, but she just whines soooo much. Chloe is much more sympathetic and interesting. Good catfight though.

Didn’t mind last week, actually enjoyed alot of it, but maybe because I have quite low expectations seeing how I am new to the series.

One question in retrospect. The “killer email” should have got caught in their spam filters. No, just kidding. Obviously the email didn’t tell them “how” to kill Chloe (she couldn’t know where and when it would be read), so how did the usually somewhat worthless Lana learn kung fu? The email? That must be one big file? Further, why did Clark bother using his truck? He’s fricking Superman! Use your heat vision to BBQ her! Pull her arms off! Knock her head off with one punch like a rock-um sock-um robot! Of course, that would be a bit dark for Smallville. . . .

Oh yeah, an email with a huge attachment file with an executable from an unknown sender. Let me just run that to see what it does. . .

Guess we know who is spreading all the viruses in Smallville. Yeesh.

I remember an episode last season, I think, where Lana got all into kickboxing because she was sick of being a victim. (And puh-leeze, that girl has “victim” stamped on her forehead.) That’s the best explanation I can think of for how she suddenly became Jackie Chan. But Chloe put up a pretty good fight! As much as I think Chloe can be a moron some of the time, she’s really my favorite character, because she seems to me to be the most natural.

Thanks for the information! That explains a lot.

BTW, I agree with you Chloe is a thousand times hotter then Lana. Although, Clark mom is pretty hot too. . . .

When Adam said that he wondered what the school mascot was and then said “Oh – It’s a bird” am I the only one who went on to say “It’s a plane…It’s Superman”?

I’ve watched it since the first episode and, yeah, after the first season I got into the habit of watching it simply to make fun of it. It gives me something to do before Angel comes on. (I watch Tru Calling to make fun of it, too; auntie em and I call that one “Do it true!” after a silly line in The Banger Sisters.)

I’m partial to Lana for looks (Chloe would look better if she had longer hair and wore less eye makeup), but the only reason to watch the show in terms of acting is for Lex.

Despite being in its third season, however, the damn show has gone nowhere. Aside from Lex, the characters haven’t grown at all, the town has stayed the same and, as far as I’m concerned, it needs a shot in the arm with some tights and flights.

But, you know, I’ll catch it next Wednesday, same as always.

Yeah, but remember the episode with the two guys who had the meteor rock-induced ability to mind-control people with just a handshake? Clark was immune to that, so it seems odd that the e-mail worked on him. (Also, of course, you can’t really hypnotize people into committing cold-blooded murder, but what do you expect from a tv show derived from comic books?)

I can’t believe I’m disussing the internal consistency of Smallville like a 15-year-old fanboy.

I’ve been watching it for the first episode, and even though it can be bad at times, I’ve always found it really entertaining.

I think I’m the only fan that likes Lana and wants her and Clark to get together.

Nope. Another fan here.

'Cept, I want her and I to get together.

Why are people concluding that Chloe becomes Lois Lane? She clearly said that was her cousin. Therefore, we see the tie-in with Chloe, she is the link between Clark and his future love interest. When I heard Chloe say that her cousin is named Lois Lane, I didn’t think that she would change her name to Lois Lane, I just figured that she meant that her cousin is named Lois Lane. Perhaps a future episode will have us meet this cousin, especially if her name being on that article makes her famous.

I like the inside jokes on the show about John Schneider playing the dad. In last week’s episode (“Delete”), you see Mrs. Kent’s email address, which is the license plate of the General Lee. The local mechanic’s garage is L.B. Davenport’s, which is the cousin of Cooter Davenport. The episode “Nicodemus” had John listening to the Dukes of Hazzard theme in his truck in the opening scene.

But she also said that her cousin had no interest in journalism. So is that going to change, and will we meet the cousin, or is Chloe going to stick with the pseudonym?

I find myself really enjoying it whenever another bit of the familiar Superman mythos. And there are plenty of jokes, like the use of the slang term “Brainiac”, which comes (I assume) from the old Superman villain. In the world of Smallville, what’s the origin for the slang? I keep hoping somebody will describe something as being “Bizarro.”

I watch it.

I would think it makes the most sense that we meet the cousin in the future. Sure that cousin has no interest in journalism now, but articles are being distributed with her name. Also, Lex didn’t start out with an interest in being evil, but we know his fate. Since the show is all about the evolution of the Superman universe, I think it’s all part of the plan to have a Lois Lane character that shows no interest in journalism at first. Besides, since when was Lois Lane living under a false name and been the high school friend of Clark? (Yeah, the same could be said of Lex). But I just can’t see them turning Chloe into Lois.

How could they? Lois has no idea who Clark Kent is, where Smallville is other than some small midwest city filled with hicks, etc and so on.

I have watched since day one and I, like others, am very tired of the monster of the week, angsty teenage romance stuff. I watch for Lex, Lionel and Chloe. If I had to choose between this show and another, this one would lose. I’m not interested in anything else that’s on in this time slot though, so I still watch, rolling my eyes a lot in the process.

You know, I get the impression that they had a bigger role for him when the show first started. Then they realized that he added absolutely nothing. Perhaps they’ll kill him off.

I watch…and I get my scoops from kryptonsite.com

FTR, it will be established pretty quickly that Adam is not a young Bruce Wayne (though the profile fits to a certain extent). Turns out the producers haven’t been able to wrangle the rights from DC to use a Batman tie-in. If they do, they may re-introduce Adam as some sort of Bruce Wayne, but it would be interesting to see how they write that one in after Adam leaves 2 - 3 episodes from now.

For me, I actually like the Freak of the Week (FoTW)…it keeps it interesting in that it gives young Supes the chance to learn HOW to use his powers. If he never practices, how is he supposed to become proficient? However, I have to say that the whole angsty teen-thing gets tiresome for me. Yes, I realize they need a “hook” for the young audiences that like that whole “Dawson’s Creek” thing, but please…if I want to watch a soap opera, I’ll watch daytime TV or ER. I can almost count on not needing to watch the last 5 minutes of Smallville each week, because it will be some kind of “come to meeting” between Clark and Lana - and it’s just not that interesting to me.

The Peter thing? Well, it is a good device in that it gives Clark a peer that he can confide in, but they’ll definitely need to kill him off before Clark leaves Smallville permanently…But Lionel and Lex are tops in the acting/friction department, and their interaction keeps me glued, when it’s there.

Now, Mrs. Kent…hubba, hubba! Now THAT’S “mom-hot!”
