I use Google Chrome almost exclusively for my web browsing. A couple of days ago, I was in a web-based meeting (not using Zoom). After the meeting, I noticed that my bookmarks in the “bookmarks bar” were all gone. As I investigated, I discovered that my bookmarks were a mess. Most of the bookmarks were familiar, but none were in their proper places.
I sync my bookmarks through my Google account to keep them all together, no matter what device I am using. This has been a tremendous convenience for me over the years. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a backup version of my bookmarks in my Google account.
So, several years ago, I experimented with Microsoft Edge. At that time, I imported my Google bookmarks into Edge. In an attempt to restore my bookmarks, I imported the bookmarks from Edge back into Chrome. Unfortunately, I have lost important bookmarks that were more recently created than the Edge backup.
Any idea where I might be able to find a more recent version of my Chrome bookmarks? Does Chrome squirrel them away locally somewhere? Are they lurking in my Google account? At this point, all of my devices have synced the Edge backup, so isolating a device and grabbing them there is no longer possible.
