Yeah, it’s hard to believe that this is somehow beyond “Judge” Jeanine’s pale. I don’t think she even has a pale.
How does this actually work in the US … presumably he isn’t so stupid as to think what he said was accurate - it makes no sense and he must have realised that at the time, if not before.
So presumably it was just another ‘foxfact’ that they thought could be espoused to their particular audience without anyone pulling them up over it?
There’s every chance he had no idea that Birmingham is [del]a totally normal place[/del] not a Muslim enclave where the Armies of the Prophet gun down any kafir fool enough to show his face.
I mean, it’s true, isn’t it? I grew up in Edgbaston but I had to flee to Florida because [del]the weather is nicer[/del] I was terrified of the approaching Muslim hordes.
In all seriousness, most Americans would probably be surprised to find out there’s a Birmingham in England too (we have our own, which is even worse), unless they’re Judas Priest fans, or maybe once owned a Triumph or something.
It won’t even make The Daily Show, I expect.
Hmmmmmm.
He may well be tossed off Fox News for this. Everyone knows that when called out on an obvious lie, the strategy is to double down and make the lie even bigger.
He’ll have a dressing down from the network I’m sure.
The Canadian PM was not there. I don’t think there was enough time to arrange travel.
Two words to make Birmingham become real for Americans: Ozzy Osbourne
Not only that, but that it’s the second largest city in the UK. I will admit, as a 20 year old, I had no idea about Birmingham until I flew there. I knew lots of English cities, but somehow Birmingham completely eluded my radar. (And it’s even in the lyrics to the Smiths’s “Panic,” a band I had been listening to a lot at the time.)
Nobody in America can understand anything Ozzy is saying. I speak fluent Brummie (“er-um’s godda foonny babby, eyah?”) and can’t understand him.
It’s not a particularly historical city, like smaller places that get all the foreign press like York or Oxford.
There is history there, of course, but it actually tends to get split down into the local areas - the Stoke potteries, the “black country” stuff.
I heard that the key piece of evidence that Birming is Muslim is the weather: it is either Sunni or Shi’ite.
What about the purported 750+ Islamic “no-go areas” in France that the RW is talking about this week? Are they for real?
golf clap
If you can point to a list of these purported areas that include any suburbs of Paris, let me know. I’ve traveled these areas by foot and public transport with expensive cameras in hand for years and never had the slightest problem.
Granted, there are plenty of places one would probably not want to be out by oneself late at night, but that’s because of gang action, not particularly because they might be muslim-majority.
LOL.
I sense a Death Panel approaching from the East …
He probably read it on Drudge, or Breitbart, or the Time Cube.
I’m confident that when he said it, he believed it, because he would believe anything from a right-wing source before some crazy left-wing publication like the Post or the Times.
Look at a quote from his apology
“for having made this comment about the beautiful city of Birmingham”.
The mans a bigger idiot than I thought - that is not any sort of description to give to Birmingham
I don’t think it quite tops the time they claimed that, if Stephen Hawking had been born in the UK, he’d never have survived with ALS as long as he has due to the terrible nature of British healthcare.
Most likely the plan was to spout off with the “Foxfact”, the Fox viewership eats it up, then he releases the (probably) pre-written apology if the rest of the world notices and raises a stink. The Fox viewership ignores said apology, and in future years will now continually regurgitate the “fact” that Birmingham is a Muslim city living under the iron fist of Sharia law and harboring terrorists.
This. Exactly this. I’m absolutely certain that sometime in the next 18 months my father, or my oldest and dearest friend, will toss out “…well what about Birmingham? It’s 100% Muslim and non-Muslims can’t even go there!”.
That was the Investors’ Business Daily or somesuch.
