so called "drops of jupiter"

Heard it on the radio in some song by the same name. What are “drops of jupiter” anyway? I trust there is a factual answer hence the post to general questions froum.

(I’m actually afraid to ask… do I really want to know?)

Thanks.

I don’t think there are any “drops of Jupiter.”

I’ve heard the song (too many times, actually) and it sounds like the woman the singer is in love with has gone of on some esoteric bend. She’s been out trying to “find herself,” and into the esoteric stuff - and possibly hallucinogenic drugs - and now that she’s “come back down to Earth,” she’s still a little “spaced” and has these “drops of Jupiter” in her hair. “Drops of Jupiter” is just a pretty way of saying that she’s back but she isn’t completely herself again - maybe she’s nicer in a “space cadet” kind of way or something.

This is definitely Cafe Society material. I expect one of the Moderators will be along to move it for you soon enough.

I didn’t take it to mean that she was spaced out, just that the girl has taken a journey, and that journey has left its mark on her, and and changed her in some small ways…“drops of Jupiter in her hair” is just the singer’s way of saying he can see that her journey has left its mark on her.

Whew! I had thought there was a factual answer, but I’m glad if this DOES get moved to cafe society.

I made the mistake of asking once what a “pearl necklace” was as in the ZZ Top song… in mixed company. The goofiest guy there explained… at high volume. I was young enough that it was the second most embarassing moment of my life.

Well, y’see, you take these little round white things oysters form around grains of sand, you drill little holes in them, and you put them on a string…

Oh, wait. You meant the other sort of pearl necklace. Sorry 'bout that.

Ya know, it never occured to me that they might have been singing about anything but a plain old necklace made of pearls on a string.
