After two years of marriage, Michael Hall and Jennifer Carpenter announced they are getting divorced. Seems a shame. I had a hard time even remembering they were married.
I met Jennifer Carpenter (Deb) in an airport a couple of years ago while on a business trip and we spent a couple of hours talking (she even asked me to watch her bag while she took a call!). She’s incredibly nice and just teeny-tiny in person. Shorter than on-screen and very thin. Very pretty though.
Providing both go on with the show, will this be the first time ex-husband/ex-wife have ever starred together in a hit series?
Not sure, but didn’t Lucy and Desi continue with the Lucy Desi Hour show after their divorce? It didn’t last long, but thought that was the case.
He was the star and now she is since he and another costar left, but Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush continued to work together on One Tree Hill for four years after they had their five-month-old marriage annulled.
I’m bummed about Dexter and Deb, though. I guess they’ll never get to “Well, they’re not blood relatives” now;)
Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray from One Tree Hill married, divorced and continued to work together.
Sonny & Cher, though their second show might not be classifiable as a ‘hit’.
I think it was their second show - I was like 5 at the time.
Apparently Michael C. Hall was suffering Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for most of the last year (supposedly now cured). I’d have to imagine that one person in a relationship being deathly ill will either bind a couple closer or tear them apart. Of course, it’s possible that one or both of them was sleeping around (actors tend to get pretty close to their on-screen love interests), but his illness seems more likely to be the cause.
I’m very surprised that she’s so short. They hide it well in the show- I always got the feeling that she’s above average height.
The funny thing is that I just looked up her height and the sites claim she’s something like 5’8" but when I met her the first thing I thought was “whoah, she’s tiny.” I’m 5’2" and I don’t remember her as being much bigger than me.
It could also be a function of thin she is I guess-if you think she looks slim onscreen, she’s even thinner in person.
I think she looks utterly anorexic on screen, so that’s actually a little scary … (I understand that some people think she’s cute, but to me she looks like a witch’s head stuck on a stick drawing.)
Unfortunate they’re breaking up. I hope the cancer wasn’t too hard on them.
She looks taller than Michael Hall and at least as tall as most men on the show, so there’s no way she’s only 5-2.
You’d think that but I’ve also met John Stamos and he too was petite in person. A lot of Hollywood seems to be smoke and mirrors. My co-worker dated Black Eyed Peas Fergie in high school-she is about 3 years older than she claims to be publically. I’m not saying Jennifer Carpenter is 5’2" but all these actors seem to look smaller in person!
The only person I’ve met who was genuinely gigantic off-screen was Adrian Grenier (sat next to me in teeny tiny Little Tokyo restaurant for several hours).
Yeah, they say the camera adds weight, so I figured she must be skinny as a stick in person.
I think she’s attractive, though, I like skinny. Maybe because I’m a fat bastard.
She has a really pretty face in addition to being charming and just ridiculously friendly in person-so she comes off very attractive in the flesh. If she’s keeping her weight down deliberately then I feel bad for her-she could easily put on 10 lbs and still be a size 2. If that’s her natural size, whatever, she’s goodlooking.
Well, Hall left his wife for Carpenter. So when I saw the headline, I must confess, I just thought the adage: “If he’ll cheat with you, he’ll cheat on you.”
Here is a picture of Jennifer Carpenter standing next to Rade Sherbedgia, who according to IMDB is 5’10". They both have shoes with heels and they look roughly the same height. (Johnathon Schaech, far right, is 5’11" and Jay Hernandez, second from the right, is 5’8 1/2". Doug Jones, far left, is 6’3 1/2". Dania Rodriguez, the other women in the photo is listed as 5’4 1/2" and she is wearing massively high heels.)
So unless every one of those people is also lying about their heights and they just all happened to do it in such a way that lines up when looking at them together, I have a hard time believing Jennifer Carpenter is any shorter than 5’8".
Though perhaps not whilst enduring a year of chemotherapy. That stuff tends to put a crimp in your love-life, as I understand it.
 Yes, I realize that, in fact - that’s my point!
I’ve become so jaded with respect to Hollywood showmances, my instinct was to think “Well, what did you expect?” No benefit of the doubt at all. Makes me sad that I’ve become so cynical.
Not exactly. They were seperated and in the process of divorcing while the final 3 specials were being shot. IIRC the divorce papers were filed during Lucy Goes to Japan, and she kept having to have her geisha makeup redone because she was crying so much off camera. Arnaz agreed to produce the first season of The Lucy Show and he remained president of Desilu until he was bought out by Ball.
