So he was convicted. Big honking deal

Prosecutors say Trump’s hush money was ‘election interference.’ Will jurors — and voters — believe it?

IMHO Jurors did too, it is up to us to tell many voters on the fence to get it too.

If Trump is given a custodial sentence, it most likely would be measured in days or months and would be served at Rikers Island. But even in a hellhole like Rikers, he’d be separated and protected from the general population. It is funny to imagine him have to submit to the ol’ 'bend over and spread ‘em’ routine processing, though.

They don’t pay the D.O.C. guards enough. Ewww…

That would be a story to tell the grandkids.

Or maybe not.

Some people see a kid happily eating an ice cream cone and go out of their way to tell them “You know, you won’t have that cone 15 minutes from now”.

The Pod Save America guys captured the vibe I also felt when the news broke about Trump’s convictions. This is my best attempt to transcribe the back-and-forth near the top of their latest podcast:

Jon Favreau: Dan, how about that?

Dan Pfeiffer: What a day, my friend. What a day.

JF: Good things can happen! Oh, I’m sorry… were we supposed to be ‘this is a very serious and somber day for America’ or are we just popping champagne?

DP: We’re popping champagne.

JF: OK good, I just wanted to make sure you’re on…

DP: We’re not gonna pretend. Everyone… all… everyone…

JF: I know, I know, I know.

DP: …everyone is pretending that we can’t be happy. ‘This is a dark day for America.’ We’ve been living in fuckin’ dark days for years now. Right? Let’s… let’s have a good one.

JF: Right! And this is not to say that we’re, like, ‘Oh, this means were gonna win the election!’…

DP: No no no, that…

JF: That’s not what that means.

DP: That’s coming up next.

JF: That’s coming… yeah, were gonna talk about that later but today, this day, this weekend… this is a happy time. We can go back to being anxious and scared afterwards, but right now… happy day.

Some people don’t like the fact that he was convicted.

Well, we aren’t French. That said, who is to say our method is better?

You clearly have experience of some sort with this matter. Care to name the prison you or a loved one went to that had a comfy, college dorm like room and served good, real food was? Because they don’t exist.

Yep. You have to take the time to celebrate the wins or you will burn out.

I used to be okay with the whole idea that pessimists are pleasantly surprised, until I realized that most pessimists also lose the ability to try. I thought maybe it was just me, but it seems to do that for everyone.

I think that, in a very real sense, pessimism can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. And, no matter how bad something is, there’s no reason to make it worse like that. Sure, some level of realism–acknowledging that you can not win, or how hard it may be–is a good idea. But full on pessimism or cynicism does not seem to be.

Is that what you say when you cut in line at the buffet?

Personally what I’d like to see is house arrest in Trump Tower for the next nine months. No campaigning around the country, no rallies, etc… and a high likelihood he’ll disobey and get pitched into real prison.

Under house arrest are there any limits when it comes visitors?

  1. I agree not to engage in, participate in, or otherwise attend parties, celebrations or social gatherings at my residence.
  2. I understand I must have prior approval from the probation officer to have visitors in my place of residence. Each approval will specify the hours I may have visitors.

(Dunno if this is the correct jurisdiction.)

States that allow conjugal visits

Somehow, I’m thinking it isn’t the state that’s the deciding factor in allowing conjugal visits here.

He could not have been “found innocent”, he could only have been found not guilty because of reasonable doubt. But of course Trump would completely cast aside that fact and would be crowing for months about being “completely exonerated” by a wise jury that saw through the sham of a case that should never have been brought. I much prefer his incessant whining with his usual list of grievances which might get even louder and inch closer to outright threats, and I hope that this is reflected in his sentence.
