So-How Come I Don't See United Way Vans on My Street?

I have been made curious by the recent adverts for United Way.
Picture yourself choosing who eats; not being able to read this; praying he won’t find you; etc…
What does the United Way do, anyway? How does it get the money it brings in out to me for something to eat? I have never seen a UW van, uniform, office, etc…anywhere and I have to wonder.
Also, do they support Planned Parenthood?

thanks,
hh

The United Way funds other non-profit agencies, who apply to it for grants. So the van that says Meals-on-Wheels in your neighborhood may get some money from United Way. United Way tries to provide partial funding to non-profits that have generally sound models that include funding from other sources as well, like individual donations, corporations, government grants, etc. If you go to those non-profits who get United Way funding, you will typically see a United Way sticker or poster displayed somewhere.

The United Way has a chapter organization, so that local funding practices vary tremendously from city to city. The OP would have to check locally to see if the local United Way funded its local Planned Parenthood.

The website for United Way of Central OPklahoma is http://www.unitedwayokc.org/

A quick look at their partner agencies doesn’t show planned parenthood.
