So how did you pick your user name?

Years ago, in the Basement of Solitude, I was bluesin’ about how everybody in our clique had a nickname but me, and on the spot I became PQ.

They never told me what the initials stood for, but I’m sure it describes something base and disgusting. I’m probably better off not knowing.

When I signed on I was particularly unimaginative and just picked my initials, hence jti. I got bored with that eventually, so polled the Teeming Millions: Should I change my name?. Eventually, I picked on Northern Piper, as a combination of my location and my hobby, as explained in jti is gone.

The poster formerly known as jti (sig™ inserted at request of dantheman, and to placate Sue Duhnym)

rockle” was my nickname in high school - the only nickname I ever had until recently, when two guys a work with suddenly and spontaneously started calling me “Chizzel.” Still don’t know how “Chizzel” came about, but anyway …

The “rockle” bit came from a polyglot French teacher who German-ized my first name because my maiden name was German-sounding. It’s actually Dutch, but eh. Somehow, “rockle” stuck. It doesn’t mean anything in English, so it’s a good username. One of these days I’m going to get a vanity license plate that says “ROCKLE” just so people can try to figure out what it means.

Well, Qadgop, that’s definitely a reasonably obscure reference. Isn’t that the same story with Illonia of Lonabar? At any rate, your response was correct but not complete.

(I think that establishes that I know the reference. Do I win any common Lonabarian beads? Rubies, perhaps?)
As for me…

My name is Ben. I’m into scuba diving. And I got tired of an older online handle from a previous hobby.

I just flipped through a book I was reading and randomly chose this name, plus it’s kinda like felon. Pretty sweet eh?

I think Matlock was taken too.

Jet Jaguar is a giant, flying, ultraman-like robot from the movie “Godzilla vs. Megalon”. I picked it for use as a handle in the MST3K newsgroups about 8 or 9 years ago because GvM was one of the two Godzilla movies they did, and the name has stuck ever since.

If I don’t have at least 1 litre of the Nuclear caffine by 9am, I’m usless.

Hmmm, I’m not really sure… I think I found it on a message board somewhere…

I see through time

A friend of mine started calling me Bruce Daddy in college so I grabbed the (pre-MSN) hotmail account. I ended up using the username everywhere. He still calls me that, although sometimes he uses Diddy (Puff Daddy -> P. Diddy)

Boring, I know.

My father gave me a book about spiders when I was about 10 years old. I became fascinated with them, and the interest hasn’t waned in the last 24 years.

“Aranea” is a genus of orb-weaving spiders.

It was a nickname.

I was extremely depressed/angry that day…and thought it would be a change of pace to put numbers for letters.

Have i ever tried it? No…close but no. Rather see what is there to be seen before giving up for good

My username comes from Hexen, a computer game I used to play in the mid '90s.

Good pickup! For that you get to emmfoze with Pilinixi, or you can have two Delgonian catlats!

Well, I’m a big anime fan, and I decided to create an OC(original character) for my favorite series, . She used a deck with mostly Dragon type monsters (Ryu in japanese), so I did a bit of wordplay and called her Ria. I didn’t really like it, so I changed it to Ri. Ri Toraookami is kinda long, so I just call myself Ri-chan. So, yeah…that’s the story…:stuck_out_tongue:

So, Jet Jaguar, is your jock made of steel, and do you indeed eat sushi from a pail?

Bill and Ted (of Excellent Adventure as well as Bogus Journey fame) had a band. The name of the band was the Wyld Stallyns. The End!

I love Doc Smith too! I have all his books. Did you ever read the admiring essay RAH wrote about him?

Oh, and as I have mentioned in other threads, my username comes from my profession. Want to taste my…cinnamon rolls?
