Thanks KCSuze. Now I can’t stop singing the thing.
My name is from a perfect Incredible String Band song, Koeeoaddi There.

Solomon Grundy want pants too!
I originally signed onto the board as “Solomon Grundy”, but then for various reasons I lost the password, and had to sign on again with a new user name.
I usually pick “Torgo,” the MST3K character, but someone else on the board already beat me to it.
Happy: name from “Death of a Salesman”
Lendervedder: a long, clumsy, made-up sounding name, similar to “Vandelay,” “Van Nostrand,” and “Pennypacker” from Seinfeld
I wanted to use my screenname to advertise the fact that I was proud to be a Steeler fan. It’s the nick I use to play along with “enhanced TV.”
Now I find it a liability, and not just because of my boring posts.
I wonder if I should change it…
I’m an ornithologist, specializing in corvids. Corvus brachyrhynchos is the American Crow.
Pronunciation in the sig!
A combination of P.T. Barnum (there’s a sucker born every minute) and a Monty Python gag (The Advantage of Not Being Seen: “Mrs. Smegma is hiding in this field. She cannot be seen. Mrs. Smegma, stand up, please.” BANG! “Now you know the Advantage of Not Being Seen.”
A college friend and I would use this name to identify people whose names we didn’t know in conversation. We liked the sound of it better than, “that guy.” Of course, if we were talking about a woman, she became “Mrs. Smegma.”
And last but not least: The perpetrators of the atrocious architecture of the Central Washington University campus were collectively identified by us as P.T. Smegma.
People who overheard us found us odd.
I’ve been a Texan most of my life (a few decades), then up and moved to New England. I didn’t feel like having a long username, hence “NE Texan” instead of “New England Texan”.
I wish there was a cool story behind my name but I basically pulled it out of my butt.
I am known all over the net under another name but I thought I might be revealing personal details of my life here so I wanted something here no one could ever trace back to me.
Same with “darren” who I was before but there turned out to be someone who had a similiar name here already so I asked and got the Tommyturtle nick instead.
Channeling Groucho Marx “…and how it got up my butt I’ll never know!”
I had to say that before someone else did…sorry!
I didn’t want to go to the Extreme, so it was either this or Middle.
I always thought it was for North East Texan, like the Dallas/Ft Worth area.
I have a sister…well, actually, I have four, but this particular one was living on the coast in No Cal and going through a hippy phase and was considering changing her name to Winter. I liked it, and thought it suited me better, as I was born with in a week or so of the solstice (she was born in May). But Winter is unfortuately common, and therefore hard to get as a user name. On other boards, I borrowed one of her elaborations on it and went by Winterthyme, but that was a little too “organic-granola-and-Birkenstocks” for my taste. When I found this board, and decided I wanted to log on, I was mad intimidated by all the cool user names and was wracking my poor little brain for something equally cool. Then I remembered this name from Neuromancer, which I thought at the time would make a cool user name, and it had Winter in it, so, there you have it.
I think of changing it, from time to time; some days it fits me better than others.
Ah, but this way, someone says that, and I respond that it’s not, and it’s potentially a conversation starter. (Yeah, that’s it, that way I won’t have to admit that the potential for confusion never occurred to me.)
Actually, I’ve lived in southeast Tx and in far west Tx, but never in the DFW area. Although I’ve visited there, for fun or for business, and I have relatives in the area.
Yes, and the dickey covers up an adams apple the size of a toyota.
Mine just occurred to me as a good name for some something one day while I was watching my father play chess. There’s absolutely no logic behind it whatever.
I’m not orange, I don’t skin things. Sorry to disappoint.
This thread has some good explanations. Thanks to all the Dopers who contributed!
My username came from the book, Flowers For Algernon.
If you have a lot of time on your hands, there have been a number of threads dedicated to the topic of the meaning or origin of the Usernames selected by the Teeming Millions[sup]TM[/sup]… as follows…

Explain what your name means, and what you think we think it means
After having my first several choices rejected/already taken, I was getting desperate. My amazingly inane lack of wit kicked in just in time to save me and this is what I came up with. Sadly it really is just a spur of the moment modification of my real name. How mundane. sigh I kinda like my sig though.
Hmmm. I see that one of the links I provided was during our Winter Of Lost Content, and is no longer available. Here is a corrected and re-ordered list.
