So how do I request a Mod to move a thread? I know how to report a bad post but didn’t think it was warranted in this case: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=328778 was in my opinion hijacked out of cafe. I was clueless to request a move beyond this posting http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=6445042&postcount=60
“Report Bad Post” is always the best way to get a Mod’s attention, even if you’re not really reporting a “bad” post.
And they don’t mind. The standard warning “To be used ONLY etc” is not observed on the SDMB. Just explain why you’re reporting, and you’ll be fine.
Thank you. A good day, I learned something new.
I closed that particular thread rather than move it. No particular reason, except perhaps laziness (it’s easier to close than to move, by a click or two.)
In general, I’ll echo what others have said. The “REPORT BAD POST” button unfortunately seems to imply that it’s only to be used in life/death dire emergencies, to prevent the Apocalypse or to halt the spread of bubonic plague or something. Not so, it’s the easiest and (usually) fastest and best way to get in touch with the appropriate mods. So, disregard all those “Danger! High Voltage!” signs.
Pre-software upgrade, I remember asking the mods to change that particular message and it was converted into something much less threatening. It seems to have reverted back but I think it would be a good idea for the admins to change it back to the message we had before.
The problem with our technical staff (i.e., Jerry or TubaDiva) making changes to the program is that every time there’s an upgrade, it all gets undone. It’s damn annoying.
I do agree, though, that the message on the REPORT needs to be more friendly. We’ll see what can be done.
