Fox News is not stupid enough to start the anti-Obama spin today. Today is one of the few days that Americans are united. Starting the spin so soon after a moment of national pride would be very bad strategy. Additionally, I doubt that they’ve determined exactly what the correct strategy is going forward. But if you don’t think that there are big meetings going on at FNC on just how to use this against Obama some time in the near future, or at least minimize the political damage to their (right wing) 2012 hopes, I’ve got a bridge for sale (real cheap!).
I think FOX is hoping for a terrorist attack and then pin it on Obama for antagonizing the jihadists and not doing enough to protect the country because he should have known it was coming. (Indeed some retribution does seem likely and we do know they will probably try but that doesn’t matter…it’ll be Obama’s fault).
I don’t know where you’re getting that “consensus”, Czarcasm, but it’s certainly not from me.
I have acknowledged that Fox News has a certain bias, as do most (if not all) news organizations. Bias is not the same as outright spin, though. Moreover, in this particular situation, I see no good reason to believe that Fox is promoting a pro-Bush, anti-Obama slant.
Are other news outlets exhibiting biased coverage? Well… maybe. I did note that CNN failed to mention Bush’s commendation toward Obama on its website, for example. If someone wants to complain that Fox did not feature a photo of Obama on this particular day, then I think it’s fair to point out that CNN did not feature Bush’s response at all – especially since Fox did give Obama prominent banner coverage just a couple of hours later, even as it replaced the Bush story with some more recent news.
Note that this is NOT a case of saying “Even if they are doing it, it’s o.k. because the other guys do it too.” In an ideal world, there would be no news bias whatsoever. This is not an ideal world though, so I’ve come to expect a certain amount of bias from all camps. On this particular news day, I don’t see any reason to believe that Fox is engaged in egregious bias, much less spin, and I don’t think it’s any worse than what other news outlets are doing.

Has anyway asked or commented yet on the special forces being allowed to run this mission in a foreign country? It’s a minor point, but hasn’t permission been denied before for similiar things under Bush and is there a more liberal / accomodating / co-operative attitude under Obama?
When reading a newspaper, what order do you think people like at the contents?
Could it be something like:
Picture, then headline, then caption then actual story?
I remember a study that measured how many people read the first paragraph of an article compared to the last - and the number is startling. (something like only 5% of people read articles to the end).
If I wanted to influence people towards a certain view - I would certainly use the headline and / or photo to do it - even if that headline was out of step with the actual article, or the article provided a more balanced picture.
WTF are you talking about? The military can only run missions in foreign countries. What the hell do you think they are for? Unless of course you are confusing “special forces” with the CIA.
It’s true that the military executed the mission, and that it’s an American victory, but to not give credit where credit is due is just ridiculous.
It’s like saying, Osama Bin Laden wasn’t responsible for 9/11 since he didn’t fly planes into the World Trade Center. He just planned it and took full responsibility.
Obama certainly deserves full credit for his role as Commander in Chief and ordering the mission.
