So, I am having portraits of my bunnies painted...

The artist is doing 2 - one for each bunny. I have another piece of his - my fish, actually. He does animals and I like his style.

Does anyone think this makes me weird?

No more odd than having portraits of your human children. Pets are kids, too. Just furry ones with different DNA.

I do portraits of my friends’ pets as gifts; I do India ink washes and frame them (ex-framer so this is a frequent gift for friends) and everyone loves having such personal artwork of their furry friends.

So if we’re weird, we’re weird together.

I’m really excited. The artist wouldn’t tell me what medium he was using - I pretty much gave him carte blanche to do whatever he wanted with the exception of subject matter.

Not much good to have a portrait if it doesn’t contain the acutal person/bunny being depicted, if ya know what I mean.

I should have them in about 10 days.

No, definitely not weird. My husband and I are not only going to have a portrait painted of our dog and cat this summer, but we’re also going to have them freeze-dried when they go to the Pet Park in the Sky.

"So, I am having portraits of my bunnies painted…"

Who painted the bunnies, what color were the bunnies painted and why are you having a portrait made of that? Sounds like animal cruelty to me!

Well, that depends on exactly what you mean by ‘bunny’ and ‘fish’.

Not strange at all, there’s a long history in art of people having their animal’s portraits painted. Okay, a lot of the time it was a sort of advertising for breeders and/or wealthy people, showing off the good genetics of the particular critter, but still. Heck, there’re a couple of animal paintings by my favorite folk artists that I’d kill to own. Lucky you!

When I saw the title, and who it was posting…

I immediately thought of boobies.

Winnebagoes

Fun bags

Ta-tas

Big-Uns

Thanks for the mammories

etc…

(I don’t know why.)

Well NoClueBoy, I do have a great rack, but I’m not having it painted. At least not yet.

Nahhh, it’s like Tony Soprano getting his racehorse painted.
Just don’t whack anybody over your bunnies.

My former employee had a portrait of my horse the Wonder Pony painted for me when he left for another job. Guilt is a wonderful thing. The portrait is now the focal point in my living room. A friend had her horses’ portraits painted on linen. Lovely. I find nothing odd about any of this.

Alice,

I think that is pretty cool. I, too have 3 house rabbits now plus 2 cats and I would love to get their portraits painted.

You are not weird…just a bunny lover!

The bunnies are pretty keen too. I’ve noticed them grooming more than usual lately.

The artist is going to incorporate their names into their individual portraits as well, which I think will be nice. He’s fairly well know around town - he has a number of pieces on prominant down-town streets. (In Calgary, as part of a revitalization effort, a number of down-town streets have had large artworks painted on the sides of buildings - do other cities do this?)

I have a friend that does Pet Portraits, check out http://www.jonhansart.com/Page.html

He did one of my Labrador for a Christmas gift

Here are some samples of the artist’s work:

My bunnies have never been so wimsical. (Well, ok there was the time they OD’d on carrots, but they prefer not to talk about that…)

Another house-rabbit person here!

One time, I came from home from work and found three of the bunnies devouring my paperback copy of “Watership Down.” I’ll never forgive myself for not taking a picture of it.

I guess it was food for thought…or just food.
