So - I became insane with rage and then my right ear bled - what happened?

Ok, the reason for my anger - which pretty much usurped control of my body - is irrelevant and I’m not out for any analysis of it.

But, to add more detail to the thread title - at some point during all the rage, I felt my nose start to bleed. I rarely get nose bleeds (a total of about 3 in my entire life), so I thought ‘Ok, might be a health-conscious idea if I calm the hell down.’ I forget how, but very short while later I realised my ear had actually bled as well, but had stopped by the time I noticed.

I didn’t feel anything in my ear area at all. No pain, nothing. It felt as per normal.

Anyway, that scared me calm. Ish.

This was two weeks ago, and I can’t really find any references to this sort of thing. It was a little creepy for me, really - and if anyone knows what sort of thing actually went on I’d like to hear it!

NB: I’ve noticed that sometimes people get in trouble for being a bit too confident in their ‘diagnosing’ in posts of a medical nature - so , not be a posting-Nazi, just for your own protection - don’t start theorizing randomly!

Thanks all!

I suggest you go get your blood pressure checked. If your doctor stalls you for an appointment date, find a nurse, maybe a company nurse, or a paramedic. Tell them what happened, & ask for a BP check.

Even if your BP is normal, visit your doc.

I would also urge you to do this quickly.

A surge in blood pressure caused by your rage would be my most likely guess as well. The capillaries in the nose are quite fragile and can burst easily, but I’ve never heard of an ear-bleed in this context.

As as a little anecdote, let me add that I was once so angry that I passed out. I literally saw the red mist descend in front of my eyes, and the next thing I knew, I was on the floor. Pretty damn scary!

Something that makes someone so angry that his EAR BLEEDS more than meets the criteria of deserving to be Pitted in the BBQ pit. There’s therepeutic value in pitting someone/thing.

Not to mention the entertainment value for the rest of us

I want to second what Bosda Di’Chi of Tricor said about seeing a doctor.

Right away. As in, today.

Regards,
Shodan

Go to the doctor! (I have actual knowledge on this kind of thing-it is most likely your BP.)

Don’t wait until you get stressed or angry again!

Good Luck!

“That’s Australian for ‘peeved.’”

Seriously, since nose bleeds during bouts of high blood pressure are relatively common compared to ear bleeds, then consider the possibility that your ear didn’t bleed, but that you accidently touched/scratched your ear after touching the blood coming out of your nose.

In your (very agitated) state of mind at the time, you may not have realized this.

The thing to do is to see a doctor. Your blood pressure absolutely needs to be checked. The doc should check to see if there is visible damage to the ear drum and try to track down exactly what bled in the ear (if in fact it was an ear bleed).

And unless you were in a highly extraordinary one-of-a-kind situation that precipitated your rage, you should see a counselor. That kind of rage is not normal, and could actually kill you (cf. heart attack; stroke; aneurism; hypertension). A counselor can teach you anger management techniques.

Peace.

See a doctor today, if possible. Also, re-evaluate the reasons for your rage. If your reaction seems out of proportion, and especially if it is part of a fairly recent pattern of rages or other inappropriate reactions, splitting headaches, and other signs and symptoms your doctor should ask about, you have already experienced some “micro-strokes” or “microbleeds” (in layman terms). These may be so tiny that they are not individually obvious, and may not cause the classic motor and sensory symptoms, but screening for this possibility may alter the assessment and management (and of course, urgency) of your case.

I don’t want to scare you. I don’t know your age, history or risk factors. I’m not saying this is a probability. I’m merely suggesting it so you (and your family or friends) can have a chance to think about and spot a possible recent pattern which may assist your physician. There is a tendency for people to dismiss such signs until it becomes a serious issue (and even then, its often reported by others first).

I have seen high blood pressure cause ear bleeds. The capillaries close to the ear drum are fairly fragile. More commonly, I see nose bleeds and bleeds inside the eye due to high blood pressure.

Hie theeself to a Dr., dood.

Assuming it is high-blood pressure, you should probably get that checked pronto, lest you drop dead when your head actually EXPLODES…

The verdict is unanimous!

Hie thine @ss to a Physician–ASAP!!

Thanks all, I have an appointment all set up.

I hate going to the doctor, which is why I foolishly suggested to myself that maybe a clever doper would say ‘Ohhhhhh, thats nothing. I know, cos’ I have a degree in nothing.’ and I could let it go.

Thanks again.
Oh - and much as I’m sure the subject of my anger is worth pitting, it’s a little too personal for my posting-tastes. Sorry to deprive you of your enjoyment - I get a kick out of other people’s pit threads too.

Gmork: Whether or not you Pit it, you should analyze your cause. If you think it wasn’t worth a nosebleed/earbleed, you might want to seek mental help to control that rage. If you do think it was worth it, remember: A killing rage often kills the one who has it.

What part of the ear was bleeding? Was it coming from the earhole?
