So, I finally got to see Spamalot.

And it was great! I was slightly worried that it wouldn’t hold up all that well, but both the actual musical part and the humour were fantastic. Arthur was Peter Davison (credited in the program for such roles in Doctor Spam, One Man and His Spam, Wuthering Spam… you get the idea) who wasn’t all that great but not bad, and the Lady of the Lake was an understudy who was flippin’ brilliant. Her and the guy playing Patsy (also great) got the loudest applause at the end. They managed to mangle the audience member’s last name which got a laugh, especially when they sang it. Only bad point about it was I think the Broadway song really tends to only work the other side of the pond… it was still funny, and the Fiddler-on-the-Roof dancing was good, but if you weren’t familiar with it it’d be pretty odd, I guess.

Now I want to see it again, dammit.

I saw it last spring (I got tickets for hubby for Valentine’s day) and I immediately wanted to go again the next night. What a blast! My son listens to the sound track at bedtime and can sing-along with most of the songs.

Did you buy coconuts?

I bought a Black Knight stuffed toy. With removable limbs!

I saw it in Chicago last year and absolutely loved it. We bought t-shirts, but skipped the coconuts.

The coconuts went to the kids… which seemed like a great idea at the time…
pass the advil, please.

I really wish I could have seen it again, too. I took my kids and we had a blast. They got t-shirts.

I managed to get tickets to this show for Christmas twice. (long story) I am sad to say that it took me two scenes with the Lady of the Lake and the Laker girls to get the joke. I LOVED the show. I do however, have on LARGE gripe with it. It was not long enough, I wanted more and more and more!

Guess I’m the party pooper, then. I’m a big Monty Python fan and thought the movie was wonderful - I’ve seen it many, many times - but the stage musical just underwhelmed me. So many friends had gushed about it that my expectations may have been too high. Seemed strained and “trying too hard,” I guess. Meh.

I went to see it a few weeks ago in Lansing, Michigan(home of the Michigan State Spartans).
During the Knights Who Say Ni part, Arthur started singing the University of Michigan fight song, which got loud boos and groans from the audience.
He stopped ,looked a little confused, and then yelled “Go Green!” , the audience yelled back “Go White!”(Green and White are the Michigan State colors).
Arthur also mentioned Michigan State basketball coach Tom Rizzo later on.
Did they add a local spin when you saw it?

I haven’t seen Spamalot, but I do have a stuffed Black Beast of Aaaarrrrggghhh! at home.

Basically, the parts that were new were excellent but the Holy Grail retreads just weren’t that fun. I decided afterwards that its an inherent problem with absurdist humor; if you know what’s coming (after a certain point) it’s not that funny.

Still, “This is the Song that Goes Like This” was pretty much worth the price of admission. And the kids in the audience truly dug it, which is always cool to see.

So, from I sit it was only a’ight, dog.

Resurrecting a four month old thread won’t get me shot or my limbs cut off, will it?

I went to see it last night in Greenville, SC. I thought it was hilarious.

I really enjoyed the Lady of the Lake’s, Diva’s Lament. I would love to be able to find the script somewhere so that I can catch some of the lines I really liked; but, can’t remember.

I have to ask though…
In the French taunting scene when the villagers come out, did anyone catch who they all represented??

I got…
Marcel Marceau
the French Artist (was that anyone in particular)
The woman carrying the “french” poodle, but did she represent someone.

WHO was the person in the trench coat representing??

Just wondering…

I don’t remember this bit, but I’ll hazard the guess that it’s inspector clouseau?

I pretty much loved it from start to finish

A friend and I have tickets to see it next Sunday. (In fact, we should be watching it exactly a week from now.) I’ve somehow managed to never see the movie all the way through, and I don’t think she has either, although I’m familiar with a lot of the bits just by osmosis so this should be interesting.

I bet you are right!!! Thanks!

LurkMeister, I am sure you will love it!!

being highly familiar with the movie is not mandatory, but there may be some in jokes that whoosh you. they reference other python skits that are unrealated to holy grail. At least they did when I saw it, who knows how much that’s changed. But, in my opinion at least, you won’t spoil anything by watching the movie this week, maybe you and your friend should rent it!

Why would they boo for the fight song?

In New York, King Arthur needed a Jew for something, so he turned to the audience and asked if there were any Jews there. The audience member that got selected had a ridiculously Jewish last name too.

I haven’t seen Spamalot either, (:() but I do have the knights–Muddy Edition (set of five), Time the Enchanter, The Black Knight, and Patsy from here.

I’ve been a long-time fan of Monty Python, but somehow managed to miss all the movies except for Meaning of Life which I caught on cable once. I don’t know how familiar my friend is with Monty Python, and I was a bit surprised when she said she wanted to see Spamalot. I had almost gone to see it when I went to Las Vegas last year, but now I’m glad I waited.

Michigan State and University of Michigan are different schools.
